High cut off marks for admission to Delhi University will become a distant memory very soon as the government is ready to introduce a Common Aptitude Test for all Central Universities. From the academic session 2021-2022, the Centre aims to initiate a single entrance exam called the Common Aptitude Test for admission to central universities. The list includes Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Banaras Hindu University among others.
It is confirmed that the Government has planned the move with proposals submitted by the National Education Policy, recently approved by the Cabinet of the Union. A seven-member committee has been set up to propose modalities and introduce the Common Aptitude Test for admission of students to central universities.
The assessment will be carried out by the National Testing Agency, NTA, which would be compulsory for all.
Specifications to keep in mind
The test would be online, computer-based and would have questions on general aptitude as well as specific subjects. The aptitude test would measure the basic abilities of the students, including verbal, quantitative, and logical reasoning, and would be compulsory. Students will also have a choice based on their preference to pick the 'Subject' of the exam.
Proposals for performing the common aptitude test twice a year are among the initial recommendations. However, the review is planned to be performed once for the 2021-22 session. Students would still have an opportunity to appear for the test more than once, but the requirement to appear for entrance examinations for various central universities would be abolished. For admissions to all the universities, the 'aptitude' score will be valid. To ensure full eligibility, a minimum eligibility requirement will also be set.
Professor R. P. Tiwari, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, will chair the 7-member committee. The other representatives are VCs from Delhi University, South Bihar Central University, Mizoram Central University, and Banaras Hindu University. The committee will also comprise the DG-NTA and the Joint Secretary, the Ministry of Education.
Let’s hope for the best for future candidates.
