Accenture's B-School Challenge 2018 National Winner Kaushik K’s Story

We felt so elated when we were declared the winners of Accenture's B-School Challenge 2018. We jumped in excitement when we heard them calling out our names. We started with the intent of winning the competition and analyzed it all the way through. From day 1, when we formed teams, we discussed on how to win this competition and planned accordingly.

Accenture is one of the most impactful consulting companies in India and it is a dream to work and be a part of the competition organized by Accenture. Accenture's B-School Challenge 2018 was also one of the competitions that tested us in varied ways from quizzes, simulations and finally, case competitions. As all of our team members wanted to be in consulting, we thought it would be a great opportunity to get an in-depth exposure into consulting and this challenge gave us nothing less.

We took an unconventional topic for our case round. We wanted to stand out, help society and at the same time, be relevant to the digital problem statement given to us by Accenture. We explored various places for more than 3 days to corner onto "Digital Agriculture". We chose this topic and strongly felt if implemented, it will meaningfully improve the Indian agricultural landscape. The next phase was very challenging as there were not much-documented research on the topic we wanted to cover. We took several days just collecting material and meaningfully putting it together. Then, we constantly discussed and refined the topic and finally added financial analysis part to it.

Debasmita, Sharang and I have known each other for more than a year before the competition, we are classmates and very good friends. It was wonderful working with them, we never even had a small misunderstanding or a conflict. We did split our work and each of us took responsibility for our part of the project and executed it with such efficiency that everything came together just perfect. We compensated for each other's shortcomings, covered for each other. It was the perfect team anyone can dream of. We had excellent presentation skills which gave us an edge over others.

We had among us people with varied experiences that gave our work good dimensions. Debasmita single-handedly took the first round that was quizzing and aced it. If not for her, we wouldn't have qualified for the next round. Sharang worked exclusively on the financials; Debasmita and I envisaged the idea and made the presentation. Each one of us had different talents that helped us win. More than individual talents, it was our friendship that ensured success. In all the rounds, there wasn't even a single misunderstanding among us and the three of us had a lot of fun in the process.

There were 10 teams in the finale and almost every team was good in their own way. Everybody had a very interesting and original idea but we felt that the team from IIM Ahmedabad was our toughest competitor. There was a panel of 10 judges in the finale and it was a dream come true moment to network and meet such eminent personalities all in a single place. This gave us a lot of learning and confidence to be able to discuss and learn from the stalwarts of the industry.

The competition was meticulously organized, one of the best competitions that I have ever participated in. Right from how they received us, stay, food, ambience and knowledge sharing, design thinking workshops, party, and competition, it was very well organized. Accenture's B-School Challenge 2018 was a complete package and those were two awesome days full of learning. The competition challenged us in a lot of ways and if given a chance, I would love to witness the competition once again.

We learned a lot during the competition and all the credit goes to Accenture's multiple workshops. Accenture showcased all the current technologies that they were working on and it gave us exposure to the latest trends in consulting. We had a slide in our PPT that took us 7 hours to make- One single slide that marks the journey of a farmer. We kinda knew that we would go a long way after making that slide. That gave us a sense of accomplishment and that is all that matters in the end.
