Everything you need to know about the admission process and selection criteria of MICA 2020

MICA offers two post-graduate programmes which are PGDM and PGDM-C. For admission to the batch of 2020-22, students have the option of choosing between the two programmes. The candidates who opt for both have to prioritize between the two. They have to pick one out of the two as their first priority and the second as priority number 2. The detailed admission process and selection criteria for MICA for the upcoming batch is mentioned below.

Admission Process for batch 2020-22

The admission process at MICA is inclined on shortlisting candidates who express ideas that have the ability to move people and achieve major business-related goals along with leaving an impact on the society. The selection process is divided into 3 major steps as mentioned below:

CAT/ GMAT/ XAT

To get selected and shortlisted for the further rounds of admission at MICA, candidates must have essentially taken at least one of the three exams from CAT, GMAT or XAT. The tests must have been taken in the following years: CAT: year 2019, XAT: year 2020, GMAT: year 2018 onwards.

The candidates have to update the options in the application form and select the score which they’d want MICA to consider out of the three options of CAT, XAT and GMAT. The scores should be updated on the MICA website before 16th January, once the candidates receive their CAT and GMAT score. The ones who’d like to choose the option of XAT can update their XAT registration number and MICA would collect their score from the XLRI website.

MICAT: MICA Admission Test

The next step of the admission process is for candidates to sit for MICAT, the admission test conducted by MICA. This test comprises the following 3 sections:

The first section, Section A, consists of a Psychometric Test

Next is Section B which has 4 sub-sections of Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability, General Awareness and Divergent and Convergent Thinking

The third section, Section C, is the descriptive test.

The test will be conducted in the following cities: Aizawal, Aligarh, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, Dhanbad, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Gwalior, Guwahati, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jabalpur, Jammu, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Kochi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Navi Mumbai, Meerut, Mumbai, Muzaffarnagar, Noida, Nagpur, Panjim, Pune, Patna, Ranchi, Rajkot, Raipur, Surat, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Varanasi, Vadodara and Vishakhapatnam.

GD and PI

The candidates that will be shortlisted after the initial entrance exams of CAT, XAT, GMAT and MICAT will have to appear for the consecutive rounds of Group Exercise and Personal Interview. The shortlist of the candidates, the ones who will qualify for GE and PI, is based on the following:

MICAT’s Section A, i.e., the Psychometric Test is a qualifier.

The candidates who qualify the psychometric test are then evaluated on their scores of CAT/ XAT/ GMAT. The ones who clear a minimum cut-off in the total percentile of XAT/ CAT/ GMAT score will be considered.

Candidates who qualify based on the above-mentioned scores will then be judged on their performance in Section B of MICAT.

The ones who qualify on grounds of their performance, subject to minimum cut-offs in the scores of MICAT’s Section B, will have Section C of their MICAT assessed. Each section shall have its own minimum cut-off.

The candidates who qualify on grounds of a, b, c and d (relative performance subject to a minimum cut-off in the Normalized Scores of Section C) will be shortlisted for the further rounds. These selected candidates will be called for the rounds of GE and PI at Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The list of selected candidates is prepared on the Composite score formula of 50% XAT/ CAT/ GMAT and 50% of MICAT scores.

Preparation of the Final Merit List

The admission granted to students will be on the basis of merit. Subsequently, the choice of programme will be considered. If a candidate is offered admission to the programme that is their first preference, then his/her name will automatically get removed from the list of candidates in the programme of his/her second priority.

On the other hand, if the candidate is offered admission to the programme that is their second priority, they’ll have an option to take admission and get their name removed from the waitlist of the other programme (their first preference). They’ll also have the option of refusing the admission offer and staying on the waitlist of their preferred programme.

All the candidates who will be called for GE and PI must essentially be recommended by a majority of panellists who will conduct the personal interview.

The ones who meet the above-mentioned criteria will have their final composite score evaluated on the following grounds:

XAT/CAT/GMAT: 20%

MICAT: 30%

GE: 20%

PI: 30%

Note: If a candidate has appeared for more than one entrance exam, the better of the two scores will be considered for evaluation.
