The Inlaks Foundation has opened applications for Inlaks scholarship 2021-22 on 15th February 2021. The applications will close on 31st March 2021 (12 Noon IST). The aim of the Inlaks scholarship is to provide opportunities to young people with exceptional talent in most fields to broaden their vision abroad and improve their skills to operate in society, thus making them a future vehicle of change in their environment.

The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation was established in 1976 by Mr. Indoo Shivdasani to incorporate his existing philanthropic activities and to provide a permanent, independent body for the expansion of these activities. It focuses on providing scholarships, grants, and awards in various fields to outstanding young Indians to enable them to develop their professional, scientific, artistic, and cultural abilities, both abroad and in India.

Details of Inlaks Scholarship 2021-2022

Interested students can note the below mentioned important points regarding the Inlaks Scholarship:

  1. It has joint scholarship schemes with Imperial College London, Royal College of Art (RCA) London, the University of Cambridge via the Cambridge Trust, Sciences Po, Paris.
  2. It is given for full-time Masters, M.Phil, or a Doctorate program at top-rated American, European, and UK institutions.
  3. For Imperial College, London, scholarships will be given for Engineering and Natural Sciences.
  4. Indian Studies as a subject is considered, only if it has contemporary relevance.
  5. Only applications for degrees in western classical singing will be considered in the field of music.
  6. Only applications for documentary filmmaking will be considered in the film area.
  7. Scholarships for research, training, or professional improvement are to be carried out abroad either independently or attached to a leading institution and not leading to a degree.
  8. Such a specific program as mentioned in point 7 should exceed a six-month duration.
  9. Candidates are expected to provide full details of their proposed programs, including time and travel plans, a full breakdown of costs, and evidence of agreement with such institutions if required.
  10. The Inlaks scholarship covers full tuition fees, adequate living expenses, and a one-way travel allowance, and a health allowance. The maximum funding given by the Foundation is USD 100,000.

Subjects in which scholarships are not given

Inlaks scholarships are not given in the following subjects:

  1. Engineering
  2. Computer Science
  3. Business Studies
  4. Medicine, Dentistry and related therapies
  5. Public Health
  6. Fashion Design
  7. Music
  8. Film and Film Animation

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Inlaks scholarship 2021-2022 are as follows:

  1. Inlaks Scholarships are open to all Indian citizens who have been a resident in India for the past six months, at the time of making the scholarship application.
  2. Candidates are expected to hold a high first-class degree (minimum 60% or CGPA 6.30 or 2.4 GPA) or equivalent from a recognized university/institution in India.
  3. Candidates applying for scholarships in art and design (fine/performing arts) will be judged primarily on the basis of their portfolio.
  4. Candidates who are Indian citizens and hold a good undergraduate degree from a recognized institution abroad, must have resided continuously or been employed or have been studying in India, for at least two years, post their return to India to be eligible to apply for the scholarship.
  5. Candidates having a postgraduate qualification (e.g. Master’s or Ph.D.) from an institution abroad are not eligible to apply.
  6. Candidates who have already begun their postgraduate education at an institution abroad are also not eligible to apply.
  7. It is essential to have prior admission to the institution and course chosen at the time of the application. The Foundation will not consider candidates without admission or pending admission.
  8. Candidates who have an English language requirement as a conditional part of their offer letter, need to fulfill the same before making an online application for the scholarship.
  9. Candidates holding a deferred offer of admission must have a valid firm offer for the academic year 2021-22 to be eligible to make an application.
  10. Any application received which does not have valid documents for a 2021 intake will be rejected.
  11. Candidates can be a maximum of 30 years of age in the year of application.
  12. The scholarship applicants must be high achievers academically and otherwise and the Foundation will need proof of the same.
  13. The applicants are judged on not only their present achievements but also on their future potential. 

What is the selection procedure for Inlaks scholarship?

Candidates for the Inlaks scholarship are selected on the following basis:

  1. An independent Inlaks Selection Committee carries out the selection for the scholarship awardees. Applications received are analyzed and evaluated and the committee subsequently calls the most interesting and promising candidates for interviews.
  2. All applicants must be available for interviews in India. 
  3. The selection process is in two stages: A preliminary interview stage and if successful at the preliminary stage, a final interview round.
  4. Candidates who are shortlisted for the preliminary interviews will need to submit their relevant mark sheets.
  5. Candidates who do not receive any communication from the Foundation by mid-May must assume that their applications have not been successful.
  6. The key to the Inlaks Scholarships is flexibility. The Foundation looks out for the unusual, special talent and identifies candidates with a flair.
