B-School Diaries: When I found my interest in Consulting and Research | Tushar Swami - DBE DU
My interest in Consulting and Research
But as time passed, I realized my actual interest. I got to know that I was less inclined towards finance and more towards Consulting and Research. Ultimately, I was happy about the rejection.
A month later, Cushman & Wakefield, one of the world's top real estate advisory firms visited our campus. My CV got shortlisted for the interview round, probably because of my prior experience as a Technology Consultant at Hitachi Systems. I was a tad bit nervous because I didn't want to screw-up my chances as it is one of the best companies. Well, I guess even lady luck was on my side that day and I managed to secure an internship. I was extremely happy, although Cushman & Wakefield was not offering as much as DE Shaw was offering.
Important lessons I learned in my life
- Don’t expect that you will win everyday. Some days you will lose. Later on, when you look back, you'll realize that everything happens for a reason.
- Always believe that there's a power above all of us. So just trust it and keep working hard.
- Before you join a company, research about the profile and check for reviews. Make sure your work profile matches your interest.
- Always, take your work seriously. We often hear that following your passion is better than dragging yourself for some work. Your job should no longer feel like an obligation to you. I love singing but I am a terrible singer. However, I went for consulting because I knew that my skills align properly with this role. Moreover, I can earn pretty well by being in this profile.
- Last of all... Never Give Up! B-Schools are hard, and they do manage to suck the energy out of you. All day-long lectures, B-school assignments, activities, competitions and case studies prepare you for the life ahead.
It's rightly said, "Life never gets easy, it is you who gets stronger with time."
