The CAT 2019 notification is out and you must be bombarded with information, an altogether overwhelming feeling which can make you lose grip on reality. What you need now is to ensure proper filling out of the application form which is a rather simple and self-explanatory process. Once you’ve got that done, it’s time to prepare to “bell the CAT”.
The registration process for CAT 2019 went live on 7th August, i.e., yesterday. Candidates can register themselves on the official website of CAT 2019. Registrations will end on 18th September and the exam is scheduled for 24th November 2019. This year the exam is being conducted by IIM Kozhikode. The registration fees is Rs.1900 for students in the general category whereas for the ones in SC/ST have to pay Rs. 950 only.

100 Questions: The examination is divided into 3 sections of VARC, LR/DI and Quant.
No penalty questions - 25%: About 25 questions from a total of 100 will have no negative marking. The exam is divided into MCQ and non-MCQ type questions where the non-MCQ questions do not hold penalty. In case non-MCQs contain penalty marks, a few MCQs will be exempted from negative marking.
Rest of the questions - 70-75%: More than 70% questions have negative marks where 1/3rd marks get deducted for every wrong answer.
Minimum CAT score required by IIMs: The minimum qualifying score for getting into IIMs lies around 70-90% for each section.
Other important criteria: Apart from getting a high percentile, candidates must have a good academic profile to get into IIMs.

CAT 2019 has introduced the following changes this year:
- The number of cities in which the test will be conducted has been increased to 156 from 147.
- Candidates can choose 4 cities out of the 156 given, in the form.
- Even though the duration of the examination remains the same i.e., 3 hours, it’ll be conducted in two separate sessions: morning and afternoon.
- The exam will consist of MCQs and non-MCQ type questions.
- To understand the format of CAT 2019, tutorials will be available on the official website of CAT from 16th October 2019.
