IIM Kozhikode declared the CAT 2019 results this morning, on 4th January 2020, surprising us all. This year around 2,44,168 candidates had registered for the exam as compared to 2,40,338 candidates who had registered last year, setting a record for the highest number of registered students since the year 2008. In all, 2,09,926 candidates actually appeared for the exam, where the test recorded 75004 female, 134917 male and 5 transgender candidates.

The results revealed the CAT 2019 toppers where 10 candidates scored an overall 100 percentile. Similar to the results of the last year, all of them are male and have a technical/ engineering background. The CAT 2019 results also disclosed that 6 of these toppers are from IITs, 2 belong to NITs and 1 is from Jadavpur University.

The permanent address as mentioned by the candidates unveils the states of the CAT toppers too. While 4 of these candidates belong to Maharashtra, the remaining candidates are from Karnataka, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana and West Bengal, as stated by the CAT 2019 Convener, Shubhasis Dey. In addition to this, 21 candidates scored an overall 99.99 percentile. 19 of these have a technical/ engineering background.

The CAT exam this year was conducted on 24th November 2019, in two shifts. The test was conducted in 156 cities, with a total of 376 test centres. Although female candidates made a good 36% of the total candidates who appeared for the exam, the CAT 2019 results revealed that none of them made it to the list of 100 percentile scorers. In the year 2017, 20 toppers were announced where 3 non-engineers and 2 women had made it to the list of top scorers.

Now that the results are out, IIMs will release their shortlists for admissions. These shortlist will be based on the CAT score in addition to other important things. Along with this, 115 other institutes, non-IIMs, will use the CAT 2019 score to provide admissions to the various management programmes they offer.
