CAT 2020 exam analysis: A comprehensive review of the paper

CAT 2020 was conducted on 29th November 2020. A total of 2,27,835 students gave the entrance exam at 430 test centres. There were some major changes that were introduced in this year’s exam. 76 questions in total were asked from all the sections. The overall CAT 2020 Exam analysis is as follows:

1. The VARC section was considered easy to moderate
2. The Quant section was considered easy to moderate
3. The DI-LR section was considered difficult.

The CAT 2020 exam was conducted in three slots - 

1. Slot-1 (8.30 AM to 10.30 AM) - Exam was moderate to difficult. 
2. Slot-2 (12.30 PM to 2.30 PM) - Exam was difficult. 
3. Slot-3 (4.30 PM to 6.30 PM) - DI-LR was difficult.

Slot wise exam analysis

Slot-1

Slot-1 was considered easy to moderate as compared to other slots as per the overall CAT 2020 exam analysis. There were a total of 76 questions and their division is as follows -

• Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) - There were 26 questions from this section.

1. It was considered lengthy and difficult. There were tough options and it was considered overall tricky. 
2. There were 4 RCs and a total of 18 questions based on it. 
3. There were 8 VA questions (all non-MCQs).

• Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) - There were 24 questions from this section.

1. It was considered overall difficult.
2. There were 18 MCQs and 6 TITA questions.
3. There were 14 DI and 10 LR questions. 

• Quantitative Ability (QA) - There were 26 questions from this section. 

1. It was considered easy to moderate yet lengthy.
2. There were a total of 18 questions and 8 TITA questions.

 Slot - 2

• Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) - there were 26 questions from this section.

1. This section was considered more difficult than that of Slot-1.
2. There were 4 RCs and a total of 18 questions based on it. 
3. There were 8 VA questions (all non-MCQs).
4. Overall it was tough to attempt.

• Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) - There were 24 questions from this section.

1. It was considered tricky with a difficulty level higher than that of Slot-1.
2. There were 18 MCQs and 6 TITA questions.
3. There were 14 DI and 10 LR questions. 

• Quantitative Ability (QA) - There were 26 questions from this section. 

1. It was considered much more difficult and trickier than Slot-1.
2. There were a total of 18 questions and 8 TITA questions.

 Slot - 3

• Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) - There were 26 questions from this section.

1. There were 4 RCs and a total of 18 questions based on it. 
2. There were 8 VA questions (all non-MCQs).
3. Overall it was tougher than earlier slots and difficult to attempt.

• Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) - There were 24 questions from this section.

1. It was considered tricky with a difficulty level higher than previous slots.
2. There were 18 MCQs and 6 TITA questions.
3. There were 14 DI and 10 LR questions. 

• Quantitative Ability (QA) - There were 26 questions from this section. 

1. It was considered trickier and much more difficult than the previous two slots.
2. There were a total of 18 questions and 8 TITA questions.

Overall, the CAT 2020 exam analysis shows that Slot-1 was comparatively easier than Slot-2 and Slot-3.
