Delhi University has released the First Cut-off, What is to be done now?
After much anticipation finally, the first cut-off of admission for undergraduate-program has been released in the evening of June 18.
This year there is a marginal fall in the highest cut-off marks as compared to last year. The highest cut-off for this year is 98.75 percent for BA (programme) in Lady Shri Ram College. Delhi College of Arts and Commerce has a cutoff of 98.50 percent for BA (Hons) in Journalism, while LSR College has a cutoff of 98.25 percent for BA (Hons) in Psychology.
St. Stephen’s has released cut-offs earlier with a marginal increase by 0.25-1% for Humanities courses from last year. Students applying for Humanities, the cut-off is pegged at 98 %, for Science stream, it is at 97.5% and for Commerce students, it is 98.75% (all in general category).In 2017, the cut off for BA Economics was 98.5%(for students from commerce stream).
In science stream this year, the highest cutoff is 98 percent for BSc (Hons) in Physics in Hindu College. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College also has a cutoff of 98 percent for its BSc(Hons) in Computer Science course.
Students belonging to the reserved category has a different set of cut-off marks based on the applications received.
Post releasing of the cut off marks, the candidates with marks higher or equivalent to the cut-off then visit the respective colleges and seek admission. After the minimum required seats have filled up, the second cut-off list is released which may or may not see any change in the marks. This process continues with the release of subsequent cut-offs till all the seats in the colleges get filled.
The online application process of admission for various undergraduate courses began on May 15 and it ended on June 7. The University of Delhi has now announced to release a total of five cut-off lists. This year 2,78,574 number of students has applied for the different undergraduate courses as compared to 2.20 lakh in the last year. Out of the total applicants, 1,44,248 are men, women 1,34,297 and other applicants 29.
University of Delhi (DU) being one of the top-notch educational institutions of the country is known to impart quality education. Owing to its popularity among the students it attracts a huge amount of applications. This makes it necessary to raise cut-off levels. Not all colleges of DU has high cut-offs. Moreover, there are other well-known institutions like Jamia Millia Islamia, Jamia Hamdard, Ambedkar University, as well as private universities like Amity and others where getting admission can be a bit easier.
