Delhi University is one of the most sought-after educational institutions in the country. Every year, lakhs of students register for admission to various colleges under Delhi University. In a recent meeting, Delhi University approved a new process for admission to its UG programs.

The admission would be based on the scores attained in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The University Grants Commission (UGC) announced the introduction of CUET and made it mandatory for 45 central universities in India in April this year. The application form will have to be filled out on a common online platform. Here are some details regarding the new admission process at Delhi University.

Applying for UG programs in DU colleges

For the current batch, the application form will be available on the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-2022). The application process will include the following steps:

  • Applicants have to apply through the application form available at CSAS 2022 and will have to pay a one-time application fee.
  • Once the results of the CUET are out, the applicants will have to select the program and college combination as per their preference based on their CUET score, on the centralized CSAS portal. Once submitted, the preference order cannot be changed.
  • After the CUET merit list is released, the allotment of seats shall begin. The candidates will have to check the seat and college allotted to them on the common admission portal.
  • Once seats have been allotted to the candidates, they must accept the same on the portal within a specified period of time. The provision for acceptance will only be valid for the round in which the candidate has been offered a seat.

Note: The allotment of seats will be based on the combination of college and programs chosen, the position of the candidate on the merit list, category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR) of the candidate, and availability of seats.

Other details regarding the DU admission process

Multiple rounds of allotment would be held during the admission process. After the completion of an allotment round and the start of the subsequent round, the candidate will have the opportunity to either ‘freeze’ the admission or remain open to an ‘upgrade’. In case of ‘upgrade’, the candidate can go for the higher program or college in their preference order. However, it is important to note that the upgrade will not be valid for candidates who have been allotted a seat as per their first preference.

Towards new beginnings

Until 2022, all the Central Universities across India had their distinct mechanisms as part of their admission process for UG and PG programs. However, to unify the process across the country, India’s Education Ministry introduced CUET or the Common University Entrance Test. The exam is conducted by NTA.

The decision to take admissions based on a common exam was taken since the cut-offs for many DU colleges touched 100 percent which was heavily criticized by students. The process is expected to provide equal opportunities to every student and give better clarity on the ranks.
