College is an important institution of knowledge where one lays the foundation of one’s career. Hence, many people believe in giving back to their alma mater after they make it big in life. In line with this thought, retired IAS officer Raj Bhargava, an alumnus of Delhi University's Hindu College has donated INR 1 crore to the scholarship foundation of the college.

Commenting on the generous gesture of the IAS officer, who is the former Chief Secretary, Home Affairs, Government of India, the college said,

Raj Bhargava who is an illustrious alumnus of Hindu College recently returned to the campus with a corpus fund of Rs 1 crore for a scholarship foundation for social sciences at the undergraduate level. As many as five students have been awarded the scholarship during the inaugural year.

The scholarship shall be granted through a rigorous selection process that will include a written merit assessment test followed by an expert committee interview of the shortlisted candidates.

This year the students were awarded prize money, laptops and tablets in recognition of their outstanding performance. The scholarship will encourage students to pursue their interest in social sciences and help them in enriching their personalities.

Time and again we see many alumni donating generously to educational institutions. In April 2022, Rakesh Gangwal, the co-founder of Indigo, donated INR 100 crore, one of the biggest personal donations to IIT Kanpur. In early 2022, Dr. Amit Sinha, resident and member of the Board of Directors at Zscaler gifted INR 10 crores endowment to his alma mater, IIT Delhi. The list goes on! It is indeed heartening to see old students coming forward to support their alma mater. Their donations really go a long way for these institutions' infrastructural upgrades and for assisting the students.
