In the 5th edition of its Book Donation Campaign, IIM Kozhikode donated over 15,000 books earlier on Friday, 20th May. The total worth of donated books is estimated to be over INR 75 Lakhs and was given to 30 colleges in the Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts of Kerala.

The event was organized as a part of the institute’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and has been held for the fifth time since its inception. The event was attended by over 300 students and faculty of the beneficiary colleges. Each institute received 500 books each worth INR 2.5 Lakhs and the books covered a broad spectrum of subjects such as Economics, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Commerce, etc.

The books were carefully selected by the IIMK faculty for its students and were later contributed as part of the book donation campaign led by the Library Information Centre at IIM-K.

On the occasion, IIMK Director, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, addressed the masses saying, “IIMK’s Book Donation programme is part of our ‘social reputation’ creation by being socially relevant and sensitive to the communities to whom we are accountable to. Professionals succeeding from this initiative should pay it forward and keenly contribute to the creation of knowledge.”

As a symbolic gesture, he handed out the book ‘Vision 2047: Globalizing Indian Thought’ to each college which was jointly written by Prof. Chatterjee and two other professors of the institute.

He encouraged the students to come forward and put their wholehearted initiatives into contributing to knowledge. As knowledge is power, it is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure that it is a power wielded equally by those in our community. He also proposed the idea of a book bank within Kozhikode being conceptualized and run by volunteers who are dedicated to bringing more opportunities to society.

Several important figures and beneficiaries addressed the gathering on the occasion. This is truly an exemplary idea put forward by an institute such as an IIM that will inspire more colleges to follow its path.
