Inserting an Element at the Beginning

In order to place the new element at the beginning of an array, we must first shift to the right all the existing elements to vacate the first position. Hence, the time complexity becomes relative to the size of the list. If n is the array size, then the time complexity is O(n). To insert an element, a newly created node in the context of a linked list will have an address of the first node linked to the reference field for the new node. If we insert an element in the ith place of the array, we have to right shift all n/2 elements available to that position so that our ith element can be left empty. Thus, the time complexity is made proportional to the number of elements. For the average case, time complexity is given as O(n).

In the case of a linked list, whenever we want to insert a new element into the list, we need to find the index at which the element has to be inserted. There will be no shifting of elements required in this case, but because we will have to traverse n/2 elements to reach this mid location, this will result in O(n) complexity.

Memory Requirement
