I bagged the internship at Headsup Corporation as an HR Consultant in the month of March 2020 when the Covid wave was hitting us all. A one of a kind experience, here is a brief of my internship journey.

Headsup Corporation is one of the finest HR startups slowly paving its way forward and I wanted to be associated with a company that challenges my comfort zone, nurtures my potential, and provides me the opportunity to express my views and add value to the organization. The hierarchy structure isn’t rigid and the opportunity to directly communicate with the founder of the company made me choose them. Also, the role of the HR consultant is something that I always dreamt of. So the combination of the company culture coupled with the interesting work profile made me choose them over others for my internship.

Down to the last detail

The selection process for doing an internship at Headsup Corporation consisted of a quiz followed by two telephonic round interviews. Quiz assessed my human resource acumen and interviews revolved around different facets of HR, my personality, and some random questions to understand my approach.

During this 2-month internship, I was given the privilege to work on creating a customized toolkit and design training modules in the learning and development domain. I worked on creating a toolkit right from the scratch and it taught me a lot of HR concepts and how they are actually implemented in the system. As a part of my primary research, I also had the privilege to interact with many senior HR leaders and understood the different ways of solving a particular problem.

The company balanced the work profile with fun activities as well. Since our internship was virtual, there were many challenges but I remember a virtual fun event organized for the interns where we played different team games. I felt great that we were able to show our team spirit. Right at the start of the internship, Headsup Corporation made us fill a fun template with our pictures on it which were published on all the social media handles. This small gesture made all interns feel valued and grateful.

Getting prepared for a successful career

Since my internship at Headsup Corporation turned out to be a virtual one, I extensively understood the relevance of communication skills, how to establish trust, and keep transparency when interacting with teammates and mentors. After this two month stint, I have a better mechanism to approach a problem and work around it considering the time and resource constraints.

My research skills have substantially improved and I feel I’ll be able to leave my imprint wherever I’ll work next. In all this, the credit goes to my mentor, who has been very supportive and guided me in the best way possible. Though she taught me a lot of things in 60 days, I would like to mention 3 key takeaways:

  1. Dig in the ocean before settling for a pearl: Always do thorough research before starting anything since it gives you a good idea about how things are implemented and what changes need to be done.
  2. Don’t always draw a straight line:  Don’t limit your perspective by sticking to one thought. There are multiple ways to solve a particular problem. Go through them, do your research and then finalize your path.
  3. Rough Draft makes your journey smooth:  It’s okay not to have the structured approach right from the start but you can always create a draft of how you envision things. It helps you in keeping things real and create the basic fundamentals of any project.

At the end of our internship, I received goodies and a letter from the founder of the company regarding how I made a difference. It felt great to stick onto something that too in times like these. The goodies make me smile whenever I look at them!
