Do You Know About The Pro-Zomato Approach? | Radhika Shah's Internship With Zomato

In this fast-growing country, where online applications hold almost 50% of the market share when it comes to Offline & Online markets, it is essential for a fresher to have an idea of how both work. Considering the decision to do my internship with Zomato felt like the right fit and decision. I am glad I took this decision and saw it to fruition. I learned valuable lessons, both on the professional and personal front.

The Selection Process for Internship with Zomato:

  1. Informal Interview with the City Head
  2. Second technical Interview

For the second interview, the interviewer wanted to know how my thought process works when it came to Zomato as a company. On qualifying these 2 rounds, I received the offer letter for a Sales Intern within a week. My joy knew no bound. Zomato is one of the fastest growing companies in the food e-commerce space. Interning with them could only mean one thing. Lessons and learnings that will last me a lifetime.

In the extensive set of learnings during my internship at Zomato, my first learning was during the interview process itself. Whatever post you hold, it will only make the other person comfortable with you, if you know how to react and make a conversation formal yet casual.

Talking about Zomato, it is quintessential for the Sales Managers as well as the Account Managers to know exactly how their clients (Restaurant Owners) think.

Hence, the major skill sets that I was able to work upon were:

  1. The ability to understand clients.
  2. The right pitch to make, once you understand your client's needs in the minimum time.

I had the good fortune of doing my internship with Zomato in my hometown. This meant that I could stay at home hassle free and divert all my focus on one single thing: My Internship.

If working with Zomato was an option, I would take it in the blink of an eye! The team knows how to hit targets just in time, which only motivates others to do the same. Also, a super cool Organisational Culture which helps create bonding, not just within, but outside the Organisation too.

The key takeaway that I'll always remember will be, however, the case may be, whether your merchant wants the type of product that you're selling to Him/Her-or not, you should still know how to market it enough, to convince him even if he disagrees to buy it initially.

I came across a unique concept of working during my Internship at Zomato. People here were separated into two teams with the two different approaches to selling the product:

1. The Anti-Competition approach:

Here the Managers used to stress on a direct comparison between their product and the competitor’s product.

2. The Pro-Zomato approach:

Here the managers presented the product in such a way that the negative aspects of competitive brands need not be mentioned.

This approach helped me understand the consumer’s thought process. Also, the fact that there are times when one needs to highlight their own product and let the product do all the talking.
