Ever since the country sank into the dark clouds of COVID-19, the government has stepped up its game on the education front. Free online courses in varied fields and scholarships by the government are being released to ensure that among everything that is taking a hit, eduction doesn't. As an effort towards encouraging more female students in engineering courses, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced a scholarship scheme for girls. This scholarship will be given through the Aeronautics Research and Development Board (AR&DB). A total of 30 scholarships will be offered under five disciplines on Under-graduate and Post-graduate levels.

The number of scholarships for the UG level is 20 and the same for PG level is 10. INR 1,20,000/year will be awarded to the UG scholars for a maximum of four years and INR 15,500/month will be awarded to PG scholars for a maximum of 2 years. Selection Criteria:

  • The merit earned in JEE main will act as the qualifying criteria for undergraduate students for B.E./B.Tech./BSc. courses
  • The merit earned in GATE will act as the qualifying criteria for postgraduate students for M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. Engg.courses

Eligibility

For graduate scholarship:

  • Indian Nationality
  • The student must be a 1st-year student for the academic year (2020-21)
  • A valid score in JEE mains in mandatory.

For postgraduate scholarship:

  • The student must be a 1st-year student for the academic year (2020-21)
  • A minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying exam for admission to courses per MHRD/AICTE guidelines in mandatory (or a CGPA/CPI of 6.75).
  • A valid GATE score is mandatory.

DRDO is India’s largest research organization. It is a leading organisation with a vast network engaged in the development of defence tech, aeronautics, armaments, electronics, life sciences, and naval systems. With an increasing number of female students applying to more and more engineering colleges, DRDO aims that this scholarship for girls could be the bridge that covers the financial shortcomings they might face.
