Embracing my last year at B-School -By Prakruti Soni from Welingkar Institute of Management
It is the last year at my B-School and almost a week’s left before the college reopens. After two months of my summer internship at a pharmaceutical trading company in Tardeo, I am to rejoin college on 8th July. The past two months were some of the best days of my life. Being a fresher, this was my first experience of working in a corporate environment. Going to the office every day, having a boss, completing projects within the given deadline, talking to clients, etc were the basics. It was wonderful to have undergone such an experience. A summer internship is a crucial part of our curriculum. We were told to do our projects sincerely and with full dedication and I gave my best.
Reviving my Welingkar Institute of Management days
My project was very interesting. I was responsible for marketing the companies deaddiction therapeutic drugs in International Markets such as Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, South Africa, etc. I had to submit a weekly report to our faculty mentors so that they remain in touch with my work. Fortunately, my company has a very friendly and open work environment. So, it was easier to approach everyone. They made us, interns, feel very comfortable.
As I head towards the end of my internship, the excitement to join college is increasing exponentially. Also, I am eager to meet my friends and know about their experience of the past two months. I want to get back to my cold classrooms which have a musky smell, sit in those stubborn, slightly uncomfortable chairs, the ones which refused to rotate completely. I want to listen to professors and apply the twenty-minute attention span theory. And I want to utilize the one-hour lunch break by finishing lunch in 10 minutes to go out for a stroll. Oh! How much have I missed these wonderful moments!
What's next?
The monsoon is all set in Mumbai. Rains are a boon to many but a curse to quite a few. Especially for all the residents, offices, institutions, schools located in the low lying areas of Mumbai such as Dadar, Matunga, Wadala. All of them experience the same nightmare of waterlogging in the streets and houses, every year. My college, located in one such area, faces a similar scenario. Monsoons here are stubborn. But so are we!
Although excitement is the feeling that’s dominating, I am a bit anxious too. What change will this new beginning bring? Will we fulfill our dreams and goals with which we had stepped in this journey? What should be my plan of action? These are a few questions I keep pondering over, every now and then.
The placement season will begin soon. Students will miss lectures and will look forward to getting more internships and taking live projects for maximum experience. Also, this will be my last year at B-School to make more memories, to cherish moments which will remain with me for a long time. Let’s see what the future has in store for me.
