Experiencing the new normal of virtual interactions over the online induction program at IIT ISM Dhanbad -By Ankita Lal
When I dreamt about my induction program at IIT ISM Dhanbad, I imagined a hall full of fresh and exciting faces, eager to start their new life. However, life always has different plans set out for you. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the program was conducted in the confines of our homes, with us glued to our laptop screens.
The program was held on 28 August 2020. Though I initially had my reservations with the online induction program at IIT ISM Dhanbad, we were fortunate enough to receive a warm welcome from our Head of Department, which curbed our anxieties during these trying times. This was followed by a speech from the Director of the institute.
Breaking the ice with introduction videos
Over the course of the induction program at IIT ISM Dhanbad, we were introduced to our wonderful professors who gave us a glimpse of the curriculum we have ahead. We were also addressed by eminent keynote speakers from the industry, who provided us with valuable insight into the corporate world.
This was followed by an announcement of the results of the Face of The Batch Challenge, conducted by the Media and Public Relation’s Cell. Under this innovative challenge, the batch of 2020-22 was asked to submit one-minute introduction videos of themselves, prior to the induction program at IIT ISM Dhanbad. From the sixty introduction videos they received, they chose five winners whose videos were played for everyone. I was delighted to be one of the five winners as it was a unique way to break the ice with my fellow batchmates!
The videos encouraged everyone else to introduce themselves, and be comfortable with one another. Without a doubt, our first interaction was filled with laughter and lifelong memories. We were also able to open up and address our queries with our helpful seniors, who motivated us to look forward to our new life on the virtual campus.
Virtual classes and competitions
The first week indeed was super busy starting, with the five-hour-long interactive virtual on-boarding session. The commencement of the virtual classes was accompanied by competitions organised by various clubs. Our induction program at IIT ISM Dhanbad was designed in such a manner that it helped us prepare for the hectic schedule one deals with during their MBA journey.
Besides these, there were competitions on Dare2Compete as well, such as HUL's LIME, which we participated in. Though all of us were struggling to catch a breath amidst the jam-packed schedule, it was definitely an exciting experience to finally start our MBA life!
