The academic session of 2020 has come to a sudden halt due to COVID19. Both, the students and the university are struggling to find a way to cope with the restrictions that it has brought with itself. In light of this, DU cancels first and second year exams. As a one-time measure, the notification details that DU has issued an alternative mode of assessment and promoting the students will be adopted.
The same method shall be used for the assessment and promotion of DU’s SOL and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board students. This decision takes into account the prevailing pandemic, which makes it impractical to hold pen-paper semester exams.
Grading scheme
According to DU's alternative assessment guidelines, intermediate semester/term/year students will now be graded on the basis of internal assessment and marks of the previous semester. Both these parameters will constitute 50% of the total weightage. The official notification was released after the matter was debated by the Task Force constituted by the University and the Working Group on Examinations, based on which the aforementioned assessment method was decided upon. For the students with no existing previous results, the grading will be 100% based on assignment evaluation.
Initially, the decision to take an average performance as the grading criteria was also discussed for the final year students in light of the decision that was to be taken of DU cancels first and second year exams. However, the final year and ex-students will be taking their exams online by the Open Book Examination (OBE) format. On May 19th the guidelines to conduct these exams were issued by the university. These exams are scheduled for July and the tentative date sheet for the same has also been released. The university’s official website has all the information related to the examinations and grading guidelines for the students.
