From B.Sc. to Top 100 D2C Competitive Leaders 2021, meet the champion from IIM Kozhikode - Vaibhav Mangla!
Why do you want to go for an MBA after B.Sc? You will find it difficult, you will not be able to cope up with the top business minds coming there! These were a few cliched views of people I used to hear when I told them about my future endeavors, and I am sure some of you have experienced this too! Through this platform, I will share a short story about my wonderful one-year journey, from all the learnings I gained at IIM Kozhikode by being 2000 km away from God's Own Campus (Kampus), to becoming a part of the Top 100 D2C Competitive Leaders 2021.
The roller coaster ride began in August 2020 with a wonderful orientation program that lasted for 4-5 days. We were introduced to various topics and were made comfortable with the pedagogy, which was mainly case-based. During lectures, the way we were taught using the example from case studies of the top national and international companies and the strategies that can be implemented changed the way we look at the business world. Everyone talks about creativity or thinking out of the box, but we were taught to first utilize everything inside the box because sometimes, the more we try to be creative, the more we make it complicated. The manner we were taught to proceed to these real-life problems developed an interest in exploring more and gaining in-hand experience of the corporate houses' challenging problems.
What you want to be, depends on YOU
I started participating in case study competitions, and by the end of September, I participated in 14 competitions and failed in all. I remember when I first became the Campus Finalist of the Bajaj Off-road challenge and ended up bagging a PPO for the prestigious Octane Internship'21 that worked like a motivation for me. Since then, I have successfully achieved various accolades from the top corporates like Shell Global, Bajaj, Asian Paints, Airtel, Capgemini, etc., and have gained experience in a wide array of domains and industry. Many people only participate in those competitions whose industry or problem statement they are comfortable solving with because they work with the sole purpose of winning and not learning. But why limit yourself when you can go as far as your mind lets you?
A memory to cherish
Through all the nights I lived solving cases, making presentations, or brainstorming with my colleagues, I ended up with a sweet note when I was listed in the Top 100 D2C Competitive Leaders 2021 around the nation.
Remember, if next time someone doubts your caliber, think about these lines – "Do not limit yourself to someone else's opinion of your capabilities. Be you, dream, plan, execute."
All in all, travel your path in style.
