From 'Criminology and Justice' to getting admission in an MBA college -By Chhaya Govil from Welingkar Institute of Management
You won’t believe it. My story is full of interesting facts and difficult to believe. Since I never shared it with anyone, I guess it’s time to pen down my story on a paper or upload it on the internet. So, after working at Dell International services for 2 years, I took one-year off to realize my potential and areas of interest. I made sure to find something I could enjoy. Here is my story from Criminology and Justice to getting admission in an MBA college.

So, I searched for various options and looked into personality types if that could help me determine my area of interest. I searched everywhere. The secondary data stated that I am a very hardworking person. With the focus, I could excel in any area. Now, this was great. All I needed was to choose an area and work hard for it.

Sounds simple, right? But in reality, it was not.

My heart was still looking for that desired area of interest. I don’t want to live for the sake of living, I want to do things, make a difference, learn for intellectual stimulation, go high up above and beyond.

Sounds good to you? Well, I think it does.

My fields of interest

I searched for social service, law, psychology, MBA and animation, as these were the areas I was really was interested in. The only issue was that I had to choose one out of all.

So, my first choices were Law and Animation, but I chucked them out of my mind as I felt no scope for me. I am an empathetic person and I cannot handle negativity. Dealing with negative people and their animosity makes one less energetic. So, don’t choose an area based on what others are doing.

I also thought of working for the welfare of women. We witness a number of rape cases in our country. I believe that our country is like our home and we should be concerned about the safety of women. Remember that pledge that we used to take in school?

“India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters. I love my country and blah.” After growing up, I realized that no one actually practiced it. So, I applied for the TISS MA program of Criminology and Justice. But I realized that I don’t want to spend my life doing this all the time.

So, I moved to Psychology. I applied for Amity’s Psychology course and got selected. I wanted to learn about psychology and apply the concepts to eradicate problems on a national level. Also, coming from a middle-class family I realized that there are so many discrepancies in the way we think. Since no one has ever taught us how to think, I wanted to move into counseling or research-oriented work.

Admission in an MBA college

So, the next choice was an MBA. But choosing an MBA was not sufficient. So, I found my interest in HR and communication.

Next came examinations like CAT, XAT, CMAT, MH-CET, SNAP, etc. I applied for most of them, but couldn’t get amazing grades to get into the top colleges. So, I applied for Tier 2 colleges, which included XISS Ranchi, SIMC, Welingkar Institute, etc. After all the rounds of interviews and tests, I got into the Welingkar Institute of Management

Now, I must tell you a back story of where I was. While spending my days in Varanasi, I feel that life is more about living.  Above study, job, marriage, children, and death I wanted more from my life. So, I started meditation and reading spiritual stuff, angel numbers, synchronicities and others. This could be because of a law that says whatever goes in your mind is helping you connect to your dreams. So you are attracting things that flow in your mind. I began having dreams where I saw my relatives in their living room, talking about me. Guess what? It happened. Again, it is a possibility of 5th-dimensional time and space.

After the promotion of my father to the head office in Bangalore, I felt like I should move to the new place. However, I thought Welingkar would be the best option to move to the next phase of my life.

I still don’t know my past, present, and future. Everything depends on the choices we make.

Your life is actually based on what you think

I always used to think that it doesn’t matter whether you are from Tier 1 or Tier 2 colleges. Does it make a difference? Well, it all depends on your hard work.

Getting admission in an MBA college from a Tier 1 college gives you good exposure and connection to move up the ladder. While getting admission in an MBA college from Tier 2 colleges give you the same thing but it comes with a number of obstacles.

Also, Tier 1 colleges are for those who are sure of what they want to do in their life. They work hard to achieve big in life. But Tier 2 students are more confused and need direction than just a place where they can do things on their own without any problem.

Bringing a plan into action is highly necessary to lead a better life. The future will depend on the actions you take today.

So, for those who are hustling and struggling, remember to do a SWOT analysis.

"Your life is your own, so make your own choices,
Live, dream, explore and don’t listen to naysayer’s voices.
Don’t limit yourself to the present that is being created,
Life is much more for the ones who dare to stand up even after being defeated!!"
