UTM'24: We Imagined A Conversation Between HRs, Students & TPOs. Here Are The Results
An HR, a student, and a University Partner (TPO) walk into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, "Is this the UTM’24?"
UTM'24, i.e. the Unstop Talent Meet 2024 is a rare platform where these three stakeholders find a chance to come together and solve common problems. The idea is to enable better ways to discover, engage and assess talent.
As Unstop CEO Ankit Aggarwal shared with The Hindu Businessline, “Every year over 5,000 companies go to campuses to hire students. But they are not able to hire the right students. We are trying to solve this problem.”
We, on our part, imagined what would happen if this troika–the HR, the student, and the University partner–actually sat together to have a conversation. Here are the results.
No points for guessing that one of the first and most rousing discussions was on how to get into the workplace. Simply put, students are naturally concerned about how to stand out from the competition, be it at the workplace, during interviews, or at the most nascent stage - getting resumes shortlisted!
The HR formula of ideal resume= brevity+creativity-verbosity.
Getting resumes shortlisted is only part of the problem. The other is confidence. Or rather a lack of confidence. Especially among freshers who believe they lack the skill set to apply for a job. But, in an age where workshops and courses are available at the click of a button, ‘skill set’ should not be a hindrance.

Now, when we said UTM takes into account the points of view of all three stakeholders, we meant it. And for the HRs of the modern workforce, the biggest concern is keeping employees happy.
In the digital age, talent engagement is all about balancing instant gratification with annual rewards. If you thought this sounded complex, you should hear what the HRs have to say about the idea of a ‘happy employee’.
Okay, it’s actually not that difficult to keep employees happy - yes, even the Gen Zs. In fact, HRs can engage in mutually beneficial discussions with University partners to better understand what it takes to build a GenZ-friendly workplace. These university partners have the inside track after all!
Yes, the modern workforce is all about a little freedom… that will generate a lot of rewards for both, employees and organizations. However, employees also need to understand that this ‘freedom’ is not to be exploited.
Intrigued by these conversations? It’s just a brief glimpse into the sessions that will dominate the discussions at UTM’24 and help determine the future of talent discovery, engagement and assessment.
