Web3 - the internet of the future that runs on blockchain technology, is changing how businesses operate. Till a few months back, Web3 was a relatively unknown term with only companies like Polygon operating in the domain.

However, now, more names have joined the list, and even more will follow with the advent of 5G technologies.

Many in this emerging field have pointed out the differences that Web3 brings into business operations and how it is also opening up many opportunities for both freshers and mid-career professionals.

What's even more exciting is the fact that in Web3, hiring processes are completely different. Instead of a resume, WhatsApp stories, Discord calls, and even Github profiles are sealing the deal for candidates now!

Quick Fact: Web3 can help India add an additional USD 1.1 Trillion to its GDP in the next 11 years.

How Is Web3 Changing Hirings?

  • Less time in the hiring process- Only 2 to 7 days instead of a month-long series of tests and assessments.
  • Highly informal process- No formal application process or interviews, instead employers connect with potential candidates on Discord/ Telegram/ Twitter/ LinkedIn.
  • Non-conventional payments- Along with normal payments, some companies even pay in Bitcoin/ Ethereum/ their own coins or fiat.
  • Better pay than normal jobs- USD 2000 per month is the minimum pay for a rookie web developer, while experienced professionals can get as much as USD 7000 per month.

A Different Work Culture

Web3 is dominated mostly by young people which has brought about a shift in the overall work culture as well. As only an emerging economy, many of the startups do not have a highly formalized work culture.

Several employers in Web3 reported that they don't even have HR departments at their organizations. They operate in small teams of up to 20 people.

In Web3, a lot of attention is paid to a candidate's skills, rather than the overall profile. Many employers have even reported that having a resume is no longer necessary to get a job in this economy.

The Hiring Mode Is Always On

Along with direct and informal connections on social media, Web3 employers have emphasized the importance of tech competitions for hiring freshers with the right skillset.

Besides, after learning the skills to work on Web3, it is possible to get better opportunities (with a 100% - 200% hike in salary in traditional companies. As a result, employees leave jobs frequently and employers need to always be in a hiring mode.

They keep a track of the projects on different platforms, and if they like one, they approach the person directly to work in their team. All of it happens through highly informal channels of communication.

However, in the long run, there is a strong possibility that as more investment comes into this economy, we will get to see roles and functions being formalized, just like traditional companies.

How To Get A Job In Web3?

When it comes to getting a job in Web3, employers prefer portfolios over profiles. They find candidates via the work they have done, and if they like it, they offer them the opportunity directly.

According to reports, one can get hired in Web3 in the following ways:

  • Networking: Twitter/LinkedIn profiles are a common way for employers to hire and find candidates.

  • Tech-Competitions: Tech competitions like Hackathons are also a quite common medium for Web3 hirings. Web3 employers keep track.
