How an internship at Barclays helped me explore my passion for Risk Management | Sneha's story
Barclays is a British multinational investment bank and financial services company. It provides excellent exposure in the field of banking and financial services. Being an MBA BE student, with a deep interest in the banking sector, my hunt for the summer internship ended with Barclays. I knew that getting an internship at Barclays was something that every student looks forward to. I, thus, was not willing to leave this opportunity at any cost.
What is the selection process for an internship at Barclays?
The selection process for an internship at Barclays consisted of two rounds. These were:
I was able to crack both these rounds easily and secure an internship at Barclays as a Risk Management Intern.
What was my role during my internship?
Being a Risk Management Intern, my main task was Risk Reporting using SAS and Excel tools, Financial Reporting and Enterprise Risk Management. My role was a blend of Analytics and Finance. Thus, my internship at Barclays helped me in exploring my hidden passion for Risk Management.
What is the work culture at Barclays?
Fortunately, my internship was in my home city that too with a free cab facility! The first team outing was in Pirates of Grill where all of us enjoyed a lot. The whole team made me feel welcomed and comfortable. Stories and laughter filled the occasion. Overall, it was a memorable experience.
If possible, I would love to work with Barclays in the future. I was mesmerized by the work culture, flexible timings and work-life balance that Barclays offers. The icing on the cake is the growth opportunities that Barclays offer for all-round development of an individual.
It is not possible for me to summarize my internship experience at Barclays in one single paragraph. It gave me a lot of practical exposure which no classroom or textbook can offer. Moreover, interacting with my fellow colleagues was always an enriching and enlightening experience.
