HUL - The Premier League 2018 National Finalist IBS Hyderabad's Anjali Vora's Story

Life at IBS is very active. Something or the other keeps coming up that will require your attention. From lectures to assignments to corporate competitions. In all this, I came to know about being the Campus Winner of HUL - The Premier League 2018 through an Instagram post. The company had posted my answer on their social media handle and I was beyond happy to see it.

I participated because the word 'Leader' in the competition details caught my attention. Being a young aspiring leader, this was my chance to meet the established ones of the industry and learn from them.

Honestly, I did not prepare much. I read the questions and answered them as my instincts told me to. All the questions were relatively easy for me because I connected with what the company was trying to establish. However, the challenging question was ‘How I would train and guide my future workforce?’. It seems easy to handle human resources but when I answered this question, I realized that it isn't.

It was a wonderful experience. I met students from top colleges all around the world. On the first day, we had a task to build a tent out of limited resources. At first, our team (the one which was made on-spot) was struggling with the action plan but then one of us took charge. We brainstormed on the possible solutions and started building. My learning from this exercise was: ‘Think, begin, pause, act, repeat’.

Our team's forte was the combination of the strengths of each team member. Before the task, we jotted down what each team member was good at and when the time came, we divided the tasks according to our strengths. The recognition of our strengths and weaknesses made us go further.

The special moment was when on the second day, we walked into the company and saw each of our answers about leadership put up on display with our photographs. I had never felt happier and more proud of myself.

It was an individual competition. I considered everyone as my competitor and teacher. My biggest learning was that we should understand the competition thoroughly before going on the field.

The competition was very well designed. It took into consideration the needs of the participants in terms of future employment and learning. We had a tête-à-tête with 3 brand managers of premium brands of HUL and according to me, it could not have been better. I expect more competitions like these in the future.
