IIMs start summer placement process, interviews pushed back by a month

IIMs have kicked-off the preparations for summer placements for the batch of 2020-2022, despite a delayed start to their academic session. As per their schedule, the first-year classes usually begin in June and companies pitch in for summer placement interviews in the first week of November. However, due to Corona mayhem, this year the summer internships have been delayed by six weeks and placement interviews have been pushed back by a month.

The IIMs have started inviting companies for placements and have been welcoming encouraging responses from them. However, following the trend of the new normal, the summer placement process might be conducted virtually around the month of December.

Covering all the bases

According to the placement offices of IIMs, they have geared up to prepare students for the summer placement process through various preparatory activities and CV-building exercises.

This year, the entire summer placement process from inviting companies to the campus, rigorously preparing students, pre-placement talks of the companies, case competitions, guest lectures, slotting of the companies as per the roles offered to work out the student stipend and preferences, are likely to be completed through a digital interface.

No doubt, the IIMs are taking several steps to safeguard the interests of the students and recruiters by maintaining a continuous dialogue.

Apart from the positive responses from the companies, there are certain factors that will depend on how the situation evolves over the next few months. Like,

Only time will tell how the Covid-19 pandemic will impact these measures. However, as of now, the academic curriculum of the first year will probably end in the third week of April, a delay of four weeks from last year.
