The pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the education sector of India. Many students cannot afford the plethora of expensive EduTech products that have flooded the market. They suffer from the "digital divide", where a gap is created between the students of lower financial status and the ones that are more privileged. Keeping many of the obstacles in mind that have arisen due to the digital divide, Imbesat Ahmed, an IIT alumnus devised the Filo mobile app.
The 'Filo' mobile application draws its name from the roots of the word 'friend', thereby helping students to connect to experts via video calls.
Ahmed has relentlessly taught students of higher secondary schools in the very conflict-ridden areas of Kashmir. With his endless help, more than thousands of his students have made a place for themselves in the most prestigious institutions of the country.
Salient features of the application
The application is designed to provide a quick doubt clearance via a video call. The experts will instantly provide real-time (in less than 60 seconds) solutions to the students for free.
Students who are in their senior secondary education can put forward their questions, which will then be answered by subject-matter experts of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Staggering growth, a promised future
Since the launch of the Filo mobile application, about four thousand students and three hundred and fifty experts have enrolled for it and contacted them in the last 2 weeks.
In these two weeks, the application has conducted over thirty thousand minutes of sessions. The experts at Filo consist of talented undergraduates from IITs, NITs, medical institutions, other colleges, and working professionals as well.
What makes this application stand out is that it facilitates students to revise their notes, learn new and creative things, get advice from experts even at odd hours. Not only subjects like Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology but the Filo mobile application also aids students in academic counseling to JEE/NEET examinations.
