IIT Delhi shuns employments woes by acquiring record breaking 600 offers in placement drive
The woes of job opportunities seem to not be working on IIT Delhi, as it saw a record number of offers rolled out to its students. Also, the fact that a staggering 400 companies came looking for the best fit to their requirements helped the esteemed institute shatter previous records.
The culmination of the first day of the placement drive at IIT Delhi saw a total of 244 roles offered to the students including 4 international offers. Focus mainly came on Core and IT roles and companies with international companies from USA and Singapore participating as well.
Offers combined for over 600 different profiles spanning across sectors such as Core, Consulting, IT, Finance, Analytics, and Teaching & Research. Right from the first day of their placement drive, IIT Delhi saw a surge in roles offered which lead to a record 419 offers handed out to the students which included 175 pre-placement offers.
Below is a sector-wise comparison of the jobs offered as compared to last year:
Year | Consulting | Core(Technical) | Finance | IT | Others |
2018 | 45 | 92 | 16 | 64 | 15 |
2019 | 42 | 86 | 21 | 81 | 14 |
Based on the above statistics, a percentage breakdown shows which are the dominant sectors:
- Core (Technical): 35%
- IT: 33%
- Consulting: 17%
- Finance: 9%
- Others: 6%
As it should be, Core and IT sectors are the main focus of recruiters since IIT being a technical institute is renowned for their talent across the country and are some of the most sought after talents by companies. this placement drive reinforced that mindset and the students backed it up by securing these record numbers from some of the best firms from various domains from India and even abroad.
Microsoft was ahead of the pack by shelling out 30 offers to students which included 2 international offers. Intel followed closely behind with 27 offers along with 16 for Qualcomm and 12 for Goldman Sachs. Uber USA and Squarepoint Singapore both offered one international offer each to the students.
It is evident that even with the employment slump looming across the country, talent and hard work is still noticed and brought on board regardless what the trend may be. IIT Delhi showed that its talent pool is certainly one of the best on the country which will challenge companies and trends wherever they may go.
