IIT Madras to offer a free online course for electrical engineers
IIT Madras is all set to offer a free online course to electrical engineers on the NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) platform. The engineers have to have specialised in the areas of communications, machine learning, networks, stochastic control, signal processing, or related fields. The course is labeled as "Probability Foundations for Electrical Engineers" and is also open to students who are pursuing their M.S., M.Tech, or Ph.D. The course is designed keeping the details in mind and will be taught at a sophisticated, higher level.
The conductor of the online course
Professor Krishna Jagannathan, who is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering in IIT Madras will conduct the course. He is a reputed professor with a B.Tech degree from IIT Madras, an M.S, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science respectively from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
What will be taught?
Students will be taught and trained on how to derive and prove fundamental results from very basic axioms. The free online course will stretch over a period of twelve weeks. Many aspects of Electrical Engineering are planned to be covered, such as:
- Probability Space
- Cardinality and Countability
- Borel Sets
- Caratheodory’s extension theorem
- Lebesgue Measure
- Infinite coin toss model
- Conditional probability
- Independence
- Borel-Cantelli Lemmas
- Convergence of random variables
- Laws of large numbers
- Central limit theorem
- Integration and Expectation
- Properties of integrals
- Monotone convergence
- Dominated convergence
- Expectation over different spaces
Important Dates
Interested candidates can enroll for the online free course. The last day to do so is September 21st, 2020. The course will begin from September 14th, 2020, and end on December 4th, 2020. Students will have to take an examination on December 19th, 2020 who want a certificate for the same. It will cost them INR 1,000.
Candidates will be given an e-certificate that will contain the logos of both NPTEL and IIT Madras. The e-certificate will be awarded to students who clear the examination and score the average (assignment and examination) marks. To register for the same, students are advised to visit the official website of NPTEL.
