IIT Roorkee collaborates with TSW to launch online PG programme in data science

In a joint initiative with TSW, the Executive Education Division of Times Professional Learning, IIT Roorkee has launched an online postgraduate programme in data science and machine learning (ML) on September 28th, 2020.

The programme will be covered entirely within ten modules in a time duration of eleven months. Added to that, it also includes expertise and three specializations and a campus-immersion session of about forty hours at IIT Roorkee.

Over 450 hours of extensive learning, the course will have about 200 hours of self-learning content and 136 hours of live virtual sessions. These sessions will be moderated by the IIT Roorkee faculty and industry experts.

Programme Highlights

The three specializations that the programme is designed to offer the participants are in:

•  Computer vision and image recognition,
•  Speech recognition, and
•  Data engineering

It is not mandatory for participants to have prior knowledge of coding in order to apply for the programme. However, a bachelor's degree in technology or science with a 50% minimum aggregate is a prerequisite besides a two-year work experience in the software domain. 

The alumni of IIT Roorkee will get a special 15% discount on the course fee. The programme in data science and machine learning is fashioned in such a way that it prepares the learner to pursue a career in the same field. 

Hands-on learning experience

The programme contains a total of ten projects and real datasets. The hands-on learning experience will greatly benefit the students by covering versatile themes such as:

• Recommendation system based on the dataset from Amazon
• Auto-tagging photos uploaded by Yelp users on a review website
• Satellite image classification
• Lung cancer detection
• Covid-19 dataset analysis
