Indian Coast Guard (ICG),  an Armed Force of the Union of India, is inviting applications from dynamic Indian male and female candidates for 71 ‘Group A’ Gazetted Officer positions (Assistant Commandant). 

The Indian Coast Guard is responsible for ensuring the security of the maritime zones of India and other national interests in such zones. Following are the details of the recruitment process.

  • Should hold a degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
  • Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to Intermediate or class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Mathematics and Physics. 

Commercial Pilot Licence (SSA)

Born between 01 Jul

1998 to 30 Jun 2004

Male/Female

  • Should have passed 12th class or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as subjects with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Mathematics and Physics.
  • Should possess current Commercial Pilot Licence issued/ validated by Director General Civil Aviation on the date of submission of application.

Technical (Mechanical)

Born between 01 Jul

1998 to 30 Jun 2002

Male

  • Should hold an Engineering degree from a recognized university in Naval Architecture or Mechanical or Marine or Automotive or Mechatronics or Industrial and Production or Metallurgy or Design or Aeronautical or Aerospace with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks. OR
  • Equivalent qualification in any of the above disciplines from recognized institutes. 
  • Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to intermediate or class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Mathematics and Physics. 

Technical (Electronics/Electrical)

Born between 01 Jul

1998 to 30 Jun 2002

Male

  • Should hold an Engineering degree from a recognized university in Electrical or Electronics or Telecommunication or Instrumentation or Instrumentation and Control or Electronics and Communication or Power Engineering or Power Electronics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks OR 
  • Equivalent qualification in any of the above disciplines from recognized institutes.  
  • Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to intermediate or class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Mathematics and Physics. 

Law Entry

Born between 01 Jul

1994 to 30 Jun 2002

Male/Female

  • A degree in Law from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

Indian Coast Guard Recruitment 2023: Vacancies and selection process

Selection Process

The selection of Officer Recruits is based on an all-India order of merit which is based on the performance of the candidate in various stages of examination. Clearing of Stages I, II, III, IV, and V is compulsory for recruitment in the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). All candidates will be compulsorily subjected to biometrics, photo identification, and document verification during various stages of the examination.

Following is an overview of the stages of the selection process:

Stage 1 

  • Screening test for the eligible applicants which will be a Computer Based Examination (for candidates applying for the post of GD/CPL and Technical). 
  • The screening test will be conducted in an MCQ pattern with a maximum mark of 400 consisting of 100 questions.
  • There will be negative markings. 

Stage 2 

  • Candidates shortlisted for appearing in Stage II will be screened through a Computerised Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception & Discussion (PP&DT).
  • The CCBT will be in English only and will be of an objective type. During PP&DT the candidates are expected to speak and discuss in English. However, they are free to speak in Hindi if they wish to do so. 
  • This examination is only of qualifying nature i.e. either Pass or Fail.

Stage 3 

  • The candidates qualifying for Stage 3 will be called for a 5-day round that would include a Psychological Test, Group Task, and Interview(Personality test).

Stage 4 

  • The selected candidates will undergo a special medical examination at Base Hospital, New Delhi.

Stage 5

  • Candidates who clear the above stage will be provisionally selected and would be required to report at INA Ezhimala for Naval Orientation Course (NOC) as per the instructions.

How to Apply?

  • Applications for Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Recruitment 2023 will be accepted only online from 25 January 2023 to 09 February 2023
  • The candidates are to log in to the website link and follow the instructions for registration. 
  • It is important to note that the candidate can apply for only one post i.e. either Assistant Commandant (GD) or Assistant Commandant -Tech(Engg) or Assistant Commandant Tech(Elec) or Assistant Commandant (CPL-SSA) or Assistant Commandant (Law). 
  • In case a candidate fills multiple applications, their latest application will be accepted and all previously filled applications will be rejected.

Indian Coast Guard is primarily involved in assisting the Customs and other authorities in fighting anti-smuggling activities. Apart from this, Indian Coast Guard has been pivotal in several search and rescue operations.
