Indian Navy Recruitment 2022: Hiring 1000 Candidates For The Post of Sailor

Indian Navy begins the recruitment for the post of Sailor through Direct Entry Petty Officer, Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR), Matric Recruits (MR) under the - SPORTS QUOTA ENTRY. The recruitment seeks outstanding unmarried athletes who have competed in International / Junior or Senior National Championships / Senior State Championships / All India University Championships in Athletics, Aquatics, Artistic Gymnastics, Fencing, Golf, Tennis, Kayaking & Canoeing, Rowing, Handball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football Weightlifting, Wrestling, Squash, Shooting, Sailing, and WindSurfing.

Indian Navy is recruiting for the below mentioned positions:

  1. Direct Entry Petty Officer
  2. Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR)
  3. Matric Recruits (MR)

What is the eligibility to join Indian Navy?

Direct Entry Petty Officer

  • The candidate must have qualified 10+2 or equivalent examinations in any stream.
  • The candidate must be of 17 to 22 years of age on the date of commencement of the course. Candidates should have been born between Feb 2000 to 31 Jan 2005 (Both dates inclusive).
  • For team games such as Hockey & Football, the candidate should have participated at either International, National or State level tournaments at junior /senior level or represented a University in the Inter-University tournament.
  • For individual sports such as swimming, the candidate should have attained a minimum of 6th position in Nationals (seniors) or 3rd position in National (juniors) or 3rd position in the Inter-University tournaments.

Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR)

  • The candidate must have qualified 10+2 or equivalent examinations in any stream.
  • The candidate must be of 17 to 21 years of age on the date of commencement of the course. Candidates should have been born between Feb 2001 to 31 Jan 2005 (Both dates inclusive).
  • The candidate should have participated at either International, National or State level tournaments at junior /senior level or represented a University in the Inter-University tournament.

Matric Recruits (MR)

  • The candidate must have qualified class 10 or equivalent examination in any stream.
  • The candidate must be of 17 to 21 years of age on the date of commencement of the course. Candidates should have been born between Feb 2001 to 31 Jan 2005 (Both dates inclusive).

Indian Navy - Pay & Allowances

During the initial period of training, a stipend of Rs. 14,600/- will be given monthly. On successful completion of initial training, they will be placed in Level 3 of the Defence Pay Matrix (₹ 21,700- ₹43,100). In addition, they will be paid MSP @ ₹ 5200/- per month plus DA (as applicable).

There will be an Insurance cover (on contribution) of Rs. 50 lakhs for all sailors recruited.

Indian Navy Selection Criteria

All the candidates who meet the criteria would be invited to participate in trials at selected Naval Centers. Candidates who pass the qualifying trials will be subjected to a medical examination at the Indian Naval Station Hamla in Mumbai. Only selected candidates will be notified of their acceptance, which will be based on requirements in certain athletic disciplines as well as the availability of openings. Requests to change the location of the selection trials will not be considered. Applications that are not complete will not be accepted.

Selection Procedure

The application format is available at “www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.” The selection procedure is as follows:-

  • Only applications sent through ORDINARY POST will be accepted. Applications sent via express mail, registered mail, or couriers will be refused. 
  • Higher sports achievements will be the short-listing criterion.
  • Shortlisted candidates will get call-up letters with the date, time, and location of the selection trial.
  • At the time of the selection trial, all original certificates and mark sheets must be produced.
  • Candidates who are medically Temporarily Unfit as a result of the recruiting medical screening can seek specialised evaluation from the designated Military Hospital for up to 21 days.No further review/appeal is permissible. 
  • Candidates who are declared Medically Permanent Unfit in the recruitment medical process can appeal for specialist opinion in a Military Hospital within 21 days on payment of Rs. 40 /- by Military Receivable Order (MRO) on Government Treasury. (Medical fitness certificate other than that of the specialist opinion in the designated Military Hospital will not be considered). No further review/appeal is permissible. 
  • Depending on the available positions in specific sports disciplines, the chosen list will be made up of candidates who meet all of the criteria.
  • The selected candidates' candidacy is only valid for the current batch.
  • All select listed candidates will also be forwarded the Police Verification form along with the Offer of Enrolment and the candidates will be required to submit the same to INS Hamla at the time of enrolment after getting their antecedents verified on this form from the concerned district police authorities. Candidates without the verified police verification reports will not be eligible for enrolment. The format for the police verification form can also be downloaded from the internet site www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.
  • After six months, no inquiries about recruitment/enrolment will be entertained.

How to Apply for Indian Navy?

Application Form - The application must be printed on A4 paper and submitted in the manner provided on www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. 

Last Date to Apply - 25th December 2021

Candidates of North East, J&K, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep & Minicoy Islands can apply till 31st December 2021
