Internship-pre placement offer-B-School, a summary of my summer -By Harshita Jhawar from NMIMS Mumbai

It was the end of March with exams on our head and we wished that our internship starts soon and drags us out of the misery of studying for the exams and the presentations and submissions are due. Fast forward to the end of May and two months of sweat and grind at our respective organisations, we couldn’t believe that will be back at campus. With many internship stories, funny stories of faux pas moments with managers, and the buzzword that is Pre Placement Offer, the MBA life was back.

Chai and Gossip!

It was the second year in the MBA journey and by now, nothing can take us down. If you can survive the first trimester here, nothing can faze you anymore. It is the year we take our electives and decide on the specialisation. Classes are a jumble and you try to match your time-table with that of your friends, to squeeze in some time for chai and gossip.

Can one miss being at their internship?

The submissions are due; the faculty thinks we’re all now experts and assignments are being handed out like hot cakes. We’re back to mulling over case studies in the reading hall, missing the internship period when there were no exams. We’re back to finding our old friends and making new ones along the way. There are new subjects to learn and new groups formed. More groups, more meetings, more work and just more fun, all the way.

Pre Placement Offer

How can I forget the three sacred words everyone wants to hear: Pre-Placement Offer. PPO and PPI talks are everywhere on the campus and you see some people already have them in hand and for them, it is, as they say: #MBAOver.  There is happiness beyond words for these people. For the others, it’s a moment of waiting for news or for better opportunities.

The Old and New of it all

But I think the best part of being back to college is to find yourself, the old you from a year ago in the new batch that has come in. You listen to their conversation in the lifts and corridors complaining about the pre-reads and the PPTs to attend and you smile secretly and think about how you survived the same things-when you had to do 3 submissions, 2 cases and 1 quiz, and also do cell work on the side. The look on their tensed faces, you see their harassed expressions as if they just want to run away.

All you want to do is take them aside, hug them and tell them: “You can do this. You are to going to survive all this and make it to the room party later tonight and back to class in the morning. You’ll survive.“  You see them get worried about the little things, get adjusted to a new campus, new city and you can’t help but remember what all you had to do to get to the second year, all the while also keeping your CGPA intact!

The Cells and Committees at a B-School

Then there are the cells and committees and now you are the one recruiting the juniors to prove their salt's worth for the coveted positions. You mentor them, push them, and are their friend. You help them because there was someone out there who had done the same for you.

The second year has just begun and it’s going to be as eventful as the one that went by. For most of us, it is going to be the last time in a classroom environment and the realisation makes you want to cherish every moment here in the college. Your professors, your friends, your roommates, your group mates, every single thing is important in the journey here and you want to get the maximum out of the days that remain.
