Job offers for new recruits won't be rescinded, says Tata Steel
Suresh Tripathi, Vice President of Human Resources at Tata Steel said, “We have ensured that all the candidates that accepted their offers for jobs were on-boarded on the date committed to them.”
How is Tata Steel conducting the induction?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much of the workforce at Tata Steel are functioning remotely. As a result, the induction program is also being conducted virtually. Senior officials in the company conduct webinars and sessions for the induction program along with a day-long orientation module. Once this is done the respective heads will be interacting with the new recruits via online sessions regularly.
Currently, the company is working with 40% workforce on the ground while the majority of the office manpower continues to work from home. Tata Steel, earlier in May, also added around 3000 contract workers for maintenance work at its Jamshedpur factory.
Tata Steel's decision in contrast to the rest of the private sector
In these difficult times, many employees in the private sector are losing their livelihood and fresh pass outs are finding it difficult to find jobs that suit their talents and background. In contrast to this, Tata Steel’s resolve to honour its job offers to new recruits is a decision that would go a long way in asserting the company’s commitment towards its employees. In the past, the Tata Group has been called ‘India’s only value-based organization’. Its ethics have always been appreciated.
The Tata Group commits to the ‘Tata Code of Conduct’ which is the bedrock of all its operations. This dynamic code of conduct outlines their commitment to each of their stakeholders and the employees of Tata fall within that very category. In lieu of this, it is no surprise that Tata took a decision to not rescind the job offers that were given to the new hires.
