Learning garnered from Aditya Birla Group's Stratos 2018
We were elated and excited to be a part of Stratos 2018 by Aditya Birla Group, firstly because of the brand name linked to it and secondly, it was not a conventional Case Study competition and involved a business simulation, which was intriguing and kept us glued.
Stratos 2018 was based on execution so no prior preparation was required. The preparation was mostly restricted in the form of primary or secondary research for the case study. Initially, it was fun to make decisions while being a part of the Business Simulation Game. However, the most challenging phase dominated round 2 of the competition, where we were given a case on Pantaloons. It took quite a lot of time since we had to do competitor benchmarking and come up with innovative solutions.
Our journey in Stratos 2018 was made possible because we were a team. It was a wonderful experience working as a team. We had known each other for not even 60 days in B-School, and we were already working together, staying up till 5 or even 6 AM, and enjoying it all.
Being a part of a team we also had our conflicts, however, having open communication helped us to pacify the differences and move forward.
Our team's bonus point had been our ability to cooperate and work together. While one of the members had an ability to work with financials, other's to think about brands and their positioning and the third member had the skill to take key strategic decision complemented each other.
There were 10 teams in the finale. The team from ISB seemed to us as our toughest competitor, and rightly so. This is because, every ISB student has good work experience, which gives them better access to resources and a different perspective to work with.
The finale was a grand event where each of the participating teams presented their Case to the jury. The quality of judging was fair, both in terms of matter and method.
Participating in Stratos 2018 was really beneficial for us. We learnt a lot about the fashion retail space, various industry drivers and more importantly, in general about how to approach a given problem. Even though the winning title was claimed by someone else, however, we were satisfied to have made this far.
