Life of an MBA, late nights and early mornings -By Akanksha Tandon from UBS Panjab University

What’s an MBA? Well, in short, it’s late nights and early mornings. Skipping breakfast for the 8 AM lecture and rushing to the University Business School, Panjab University canteen after it’s over. It is about staying up late and spending hours in front of the laptop to finish an assignment to submit it in the morning. The feeling of the exam pressure a night before and letting the steam off with a little party after every single one, followed by a grand one later is what it is about. In short, life during an MBA revolves around celebrating every achievement, no matter how big or small.

Between all this, comes the internship, to give a taste of the corporate life. It provides a practical aspect to our theoretical bases. The difference that I realized between a corporate and student life is the amount of freedom and work pressure that you get.

The Pros

You just can’t miss a meeting because you don’t feel like attending it, but neither had to attend long and boring lectures. You can’t go home whenever you feel like, but at the same time, you have no late-night assignments as well. Also, you can’t procrastinate work and sit for a “chai” at your favorite canteen, but can take a short break any time you feel stressed. Thus, both have their own pros and shape your personality in different ways.

After the internship period, I was back to my student life. The most important part of being back was the chance to meet my friends again. It felt like a reunion. All of us greeted each other with a hug and a cheerful smile. We did have a realization subconsciously about this being our last year together. We had to part ways again, this time for long.

We are the seniors!

There was another change. I was a senior now. As soon as I finished with my internship, I started helping with the preparations for the Induction program that was meant for the junior batch. We all welcomed them aboard with great enthusiasm. They all, too, seemed enthralled with their minds filled with expectations from their new journey. I got a chance to interact with many of them and offered them whatever help I could. Being a part of the college band, I also got a chance to recruit some of the juniors for the same.

I had mixed feelings while coming back to my college, the life of being an MBA student. I was excited to be back to my student life. At the same time, I was a little worried because of the late nights and work pressure that was coming with it. But that’s what makes an MBA, an MBA. The harder the battle, the glorious is the victory.
