Why is L'Oréal providing this scholarship to women?
Out of every 1,000 people on earth, 496 are women. However, women make up only 28% of the workforce in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Men enormously outnumber women when it comes to pursuing majors in science and technology. Girls are often tracked away from these disciplines and as a result, a huge drop in women’s share can be seen in some of the highest paying jobs in computer science and technology.
“About 43 percent of science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduates in India may be women, which is the highest in the world, but women's share in STEM jobs in India is a mere 14 percent”,
L'Oréal India is making a great contribution to the upliftment of women's participation in science in India. We believe we can bring a positive change through such initiatives and bring equality in the workplace.
