Talk about getting the perfect job! A man revealed on a Reddit post about how he earned salary hikes and promotions by practically whiling away his time during office hours by watching movies, sleeping etc. Wait, before you all get too excited about the whole venture and start looking out for your own perfect job, let us make clear how exactly did he go about it!

Graveyard shift of Data Entry

The said man got a night-shift job of doing data entry back in 2015. He was looking to earn some extra cash by working the graveyard shift. He would get an email containing the details and he would have to put the information into the company’s system.

After the necessary training, he realized there was no need to do it manually. Infact, by developing a code, data entry could be done automatically. He got hold of a freelancer which cost him about two months’ salary. After making sure that the code was running successfully (which usually took 5 minutes), he would watch movies, sleep or go out.

The fact that the company didn’t want to waste money for the transportation and office space for the graveyard shift, the man worked from home which sealed this good deal.

No leaves with impeccable work

The man didn’t take any leave, and gave out impeccable work on time. Consequently, the company offered him promotions and even offered him day time positions. But who would let go of this remarkable arrangement? He rejected the position saying he was an introvert and quite happy with this position.

Such was the case, that he got two salary hikes for never taking a leave, and being the Top performer.

In his defense, he did try to present his code to the company but he was brushed off by the regional manager who said they were busy dealing with the important stuff, that he can go on doing his excellent work.

How did he remain at TOP?

Many times, coworkers would try to match his output, but on those days he would up his production and keep himself on top. He would change the statistics regularly so no one would notice.

Finally , the company caught up to the fact that they can enter data with the help of a code. After four years, the company finally developed new software, making the data entry position obsolete. A few weeks later he got a severance check and was offered to apply for any position.

He signed off by saying, “I never talked about that with anybody IRL, not even my family, even my wife wasn't sure what my job was about with that other company. Now that it is over. There you go, my darkest work secret.”

I did try to schedule a demonstration of "my code", I think that was back in 2017. The regional manager told me they're very busy dealing with the important stuff, just to keep doing the good work I was doing.... which I fucking did until the day I was let go.

Some users commented hilariously on the thread. One user said, “Slow Clap. You could have retired and it would never matter to the company they paid for the results with no complaints.”

Another user wrote, “Absolutely agree. That guy didn't do nothing, he did exactly what he was paid for.”
