Managing my graduation and preparation for competitive exams -By Shruti Nagori from IFMR Sri City
I decided to complete my studies at one go without a break. For this, I began planning for a master’s degree while I was pursuing my graduation. I started preparing for my master's degree when I was in the last year of my graduation. Like others, I also joined a coaching institute to prepare for competitive exams to join an MBA institute. Here is how I was stuck between managing my graduation and the preparation of competitive exams.

Graduation and preparation for competitive exams

Managing both graduation and coaching was a tough task for me. After attending my college, I used to go to attend the coaching classes. Also, I had little time left for self-study. And at that time I had to study for college along with my coaching classes. Some days I skipped my college lectures to focus more on studies. I would sit in the library for hours and read newspapers and novels. Moreover, I carried my coaching books to college and studied there. There were other people in my college who were following the same process. We all used to study together.

Also, I had to miss some family functions, parties, movies, and shopping. Class schedules and studies also covered all my holidays. I would just recall the phrase, “In order to get something, you have to lose something.” With this thought in mind, I started preparing rigorously. I had notebooks full of current affairs and a mind full of dreams.

Somewhere I was not happy because I lacked in some areas while preparing for exams. While I was glad because I outperformed in the difficult areas which seemed really impossible for me. Soon the results were out. I was shivering. I received fewer interview calls. Although, I kept preparing for exams.

The first Interview of my life

Finally, the day came. I went with my father to give the first interview of my life. As I was sitting in the waiting area, I began getting nervous. My father told me to stop worrying about the results. But I had to give my best. Like normal human behavior, I asked other candidates about what the interviewers asked them and started finding answers to all of them. Finally, my turn came. I saw two people sitting and focusing their eyes on me as I walked in. They started questioning me about finance, marketing, my city, background, career goal, future life, etc. I was nervous. Although, I gave my best. I failed to answer some of the questions. Finally, I was done with that. But I had this negative thought of getting rejected.

The Result Day

It was showtime. As I was praying to God over the possibility of getting selected, I opened the final list and searched for my name. I couldn’t find it. I browsed through the wait-list. Guess what? It was there. A little ray of hope enlightened within me. After days of wait, I received a message for my selection at IFMR Sri City. That’s when I began a new journey to success.
