Meet the IIM Women for Social Action group that sent migrant workers home during lockdown
March 2020 brought unprecedented times with itself. Coronavirus was declared to be a pandemic, the world was busy dealing with the wrath of a virus that had shut doors of companies, schools, colleges, so much that the country had to impose an overall lockdown. But amidst these uncertain times, the ones who suffered the most were migrant workers. Separated from their families, living in an unfamiliar land, they had no clue of what would happen next, like many others, which led to a state of confusion and thus, havoc spilt all over. This is where the IIM Women for Social Action group took charge with a vision to sent these troubled workers home.
A heroic story, unlike the ones penned down in traditional ways, the IIM Women for Social Action group accomplished a task many only dreamt of. In a time when a pandemic was lurking on the streets, the women from IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow sent migrant workers home in association with Sonu Sood, who had previously come as a messiah to these stranded workers.
Within a month, the group had managed to send 1500 workers home. Prayers and blessings came their way but along with that was the satisfaction of being in a position to leave an impact and make some difference.
