Nestlé Ingenium 2018 Pooja Basu's Winning Story
We first tried understanding the specific ask of the case in great detail. Once that was clear, we made our approach strategy very clear, did an extensive literature review, targeted benchmarking and data collection and broke down the case into manageable bits to go ahead. The most challenging aspect was when we were trying to finalize and refine our solution. We kept having multiple rounds of debates and arguments amongst ourselves.
This was a dream team and it was great learning from each other. Whenever we had differences in opinions, we listened to the others' viewpoints and tried reaching a consensus based on rational thinking, keeping the main goal in sight. Our internal team dynamics and mutual understanding of each other's working styles helped us work in a seamless and organized manner.
There were three teams chosen from five campuses which are leaders in the field of Human Resources. To start with, the case was framed quite comprehensively, with flawless attention to every little detail. Even in terms of the judgment, I felt that we were asked quite probing questions that were designed to gauge our understanding and approach to problem-solving.
My overall learning from this competition can be quite aptly summed up as 'persevering with resilience'. I remember when the deadlines were looming too close and there were moments of doubts with respect to the completion of the case, we actually rolled up our sleeves and motivated each other to keep going.
