In 1999, Rohit's uncle enrolled him in a cricket camp owing to a lack of financial assistance at home. Dinesh Lad, the camp's coach, suggested Rohit to switch to Swami Vivekanand International School, Mumbai because of the school's better cricket training facilities and the fact that he was the head coach there.
