Samsung E.D.G.E. 2017- Let Your Dreams take a Flight

Samsung Electronics is a global leader in technology, opening new possibilities for people everywhere. Through relentless innovation and discovery, Samsung is transforming the worlds of TVs, smartphones, wearable devices, tablets, digital appliances, network systems, and memory, system LSI, foundry and LED solutions.

Apart from its venture in the world of electronics and other businesses, Samsung also has started with student engagement initiative called ‘ Empowering Dreams Gaining Excellence (E.D.G.E.)’ which was first launched in the year 2016.

Samsung E.D.G.E. 2017 was open to MBA students from select campuses- FMS, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IRMA, JBIMS, MDI Gurgaon, MSSW, NID, NITIE, SPJIMR, TISS, XLRI Jamshedpur. The students were asked to form teams of 3 members and register for the challenge.

The challenge was divided into many rounds which are as follows:

Campus Round

The registered teams got a window period which they had to utilise to form an executive summary on a case based on the area of their interest. The teams were expected to do in-depth research and analysis on the case and submit the executive summary which broadly defines the strategy proposed.

Entries received were broadly adjudged based on the quality of analysis and strength of the strategy proposed by the jury comprising of Samsung’s leaders and managers.

The jury shortlisted the top college teams to represent the institute in the Zonal Rounds.

Zonal Round

The shortlisted teams got to work on the same case presented in the campus round, however in a more detailed way. The teams were invited to present their plan to business leaders of Samsung at assigned location.

The 10-min presentation is followed by a Q&A session by the Jury.

The entries are evaluated on the following criteria-

  • A case, Business and Situation Analysis
  • Clarity of Ideas/Out-of-the-box thinking
  • Ease of Implementation
  • Supporting Analytics
  • Financial Viability/ROI
  • Quality of Presentation

The top 10 winning teams got a chance to be a part of the Grand Finale at Gurgaon and meet the Samsung Leadership Team.

Leadership Connect

The winning teams were aligned to the business leaders of Samsung based on their case. They got the opportunity to interact and get mentored by the experts to capture the business essence before the national finale.

National Round

The finalists were invited to Gurgaon to present their solutions to the senior Samsung Leaders. The teams also had an opportunity to interact with their peers and with the industry leaders. View the details of the competition here.

Winners and Prizes

Team Athena'Z from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras was declared as the holder of the first position followed by Team Apu from NID, Ahmedabad and Team The Inflammable Flame from IIM, Lucknow secured the 3rd position.

The top winning team was awarded a cash prize of ₹ 300,000 and a Samsung product along with a pre-placement Offer for the final year students. The second position holder received a cash prize of ₹ 150,000 with a pre-placement Offer for the final year students. And a cash prize of ₹ 75,000 was awarded to the third winning team.
