This Raksha Bandhan, Get Inspired By These Siblings Who Cracked UPSC
The UPSC CSE entrance examination is one of the toughest examinations in India, conducted to select candidates for Indian Civil Services. Aspirants spend years preparing for the exam, facing intense and massive competition at every stage of the exam. But, these sibling groups managed to clear the exam, bringing twice the joy and pride to their parents.
As India celebrates the festival of siblings with Raksha Bandhan, we bring you a list of 7 sibling pairs and groups who cleared the UPSC exam:
Yogesh, Madhavi Mishra, Kshama and Lokesh Mishra

Hailing from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, these four siblings became the talk of the nation after all four of them cleared the UPSC exam. Their father, Anil Prakash Mishra, was a manager at a Gramin bank.
“Though I was a manager at a Gramin bank, I never compromised with my children’s quality of education. I wanted them to get good jobs and my children also focused on their studies. (Now) I hold my head high today because of my children,” shared the father.
Yogesh Mishra was the first one to clear the exam in 2013, followed by his sister Madhavi Mishra in 2014 and brother Lokesh Mishra in 2015. All three of them became IAS officers. Kshama Mishra, meanwhile, cleared the exam in 2016 and became an IPS officer.
Simran and Srishti

In 2020, this sister duo fulfilled their father’s dream by clearing the UPSC exam together. Simran secured AIR 474 and Srishti got AIR 373 in the UPSC CSE 2020 exam. Daughters of property dealer Neeraj Kumar, both sisters aspired to become IFS officers.
Hailing from Delhi, the duo became each other’s motivator. Both of them relied on online material and coaching to prepare for the exam and stayed away from social media - only using channels like Twitter, Telegram, etc. to access the news and UPS content.
Pankaj and Amit Kumawat

The sons of a tailor from Rajasthan, Pankaj and Amit Kumawat battled all odds to clear the UPSC exam in 2018 - that too, without coaching. Both are graduates of IIT Delhi.
While it’s usually the elder siblings who motivate their younger siblings, in this case, it was the opposite. Amit was the one who motivated Pankaj to attempt the UPSC examination - to make a difference. Thus, Pankaj shifted his attention from the corporate world (he was working for two years) to UPSC prep. Both brothers credit their parents’ constant support for their success.
Tina and Ria Dabi

Two of the most popular IAS officers in the country, Tina and Ria Dabi cleared the UPSC examination in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Both are alumnae of LSR, Delhi. Tina was only 22 when she cracked the exam, becoming the first woman from the SC category to top UPSC. Her sister also cleared the exam with AIR 15.
Ankita and Vaishali Jain
The Jain sisters’ story is one of grit and determination! Both contracted the deadly Coronavirus at different stages of their UPSC journey but came out winning.
Ankita cleared the UPSC 2020 exam, securing AIR 3. This was her fourth attempt. Meanwhile, her younger sister Vaishali Jain secured AIR 21 in UPSC 2020. This was her second attempt.
Vaishali considers her sister Ankita as her biggest inspiration. As per news reports, she shared that the only message she has for aspirants is to stay focused
“Keep your eyes on the goal, believe in yourself, and just keep moving. It’s okay to get tired, but don’t stop,” said Vaishali.
Her sister, Ankita, shares her opinion - stating that it’s important to keep your original goal in mind when the journey gets tough.
“The journey of UPSC is full of uncertainties. At times it makes you tired, but you have to keep your spirit up. Think why you wanted to come to the service. If you have achieved that goal, leave it, and if not, then work hard till you achieve success.”
Anjali and Anamika Meena

In 2020, Anjali and Anamika Meena walked in their father’s footsteps, by clearing the prestigious UPSC exam. Their father, Ramesh Chand Meena, is an IAS officer.
Originally hailing from Rajasthan, both sisters graduated as electrical engineers before securing admission into IIM Ahmedabad. While Anamika completed her MBA in 2014, Anjali did not go through with it - because she cleared UPSC.
Jagat Sai and Vasanth Kumar

Brothers and engineers Jagat Sai and Vasanth Kumar cleared the UPSC exam in the same year - in 2020. It was Sai’s fifth attempt - but he secured AIR 32. This was Kumar’s second attempt and he secured AIR 170. The brothers belong to West Godavari.
