What is the aim of the Smart India Hackathon?

The Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide, government initiative that aims to bring together the top tech talent to solve real-world problems in India.

The aim of the Smart India Hackathon is to bolster a culture of product innovation and a problem-solving attitude to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives as stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2021 could not be conducted due to the Covid pandemic.

How many winners are there in Smart India Hackathon?

For the SIH Senior edition, there is only ONE single winning team for every proposed problem statement. Per the nodal centre, only 3 teams will be selected for the award.

How can I participate in Smart India Hackathon?

To participate in Smart India Hackathon, one has to qualify for an internal hackathon of their college. For Higher Education Institutes (HEI), 15 teams per college are allowed to be nominated, whereas for Smart India Hackathon - Junior edition 2022 (school level), 10 teams will be nominated per school by the schools.

How many teams are selected for Smart India Hackathon?

As many as 30,000 teams participated in SIH 2022. Nearly, 2033 teams from campus-level hackathons comprising 15,000+ students qualified for the grand finale. 

Is Smart India Hackathon online or offline?

Smart India Hackathon is usually held offline at their nodal centres across the country. However, in 2020. the hackathon was conducted online due to the pandemic.

Is Smart India Hackathon held every year?

Yes, SIH is conducted every year since 2017 except for 2021 in two formats - SIH Software and SIH Hardware

This year, 75 nodal centers were given the agenda of conducting the hackathon PAN India. 

How many problem statements are there in SIH?

In the Smart India Hackathon 2022, a total of 476 problem statements were received from 62 organizations and 53 Union Ministries in the finale. Some of them included the following:

  • IoT-enabled risk monitoring system in the cold supply chain for perishable food items,
  • High-resolution 3D model of terrain,
  • Infrastructure and roads conditions in disaster struck areas,
  • Optical character recognition (OCR) of temple inscriptions and translations in Devanagari scripts, etc.
