Star of the campus: Defying the Murphy's Law -By Surbhi from IIM Ranchi

All set for the very first day of my college at IIM Ranchi, I was nervous. I boarded the college bus with a cluttered head, overthinking whether or not I’ll be able to make new friends. Most of the seats in the bus were occupied except one. I went and asked the girl who occupied the window seat if I had any friend of hers competing for that one precious seat. She smiled and said, “You can sit here”. As the bus gained momentum, we broke the silence lingering between us and started talking about our journey to this place. Her name was a bit difficult to pronounce “Pradnya”.  Little did I know that she would later become my flatmate and turn out to be the star of the campus for another 2 years!

The amazing talker

The first impression I had of her was that she was an amazing talker. As time passed, she got popular, mainly because of her magnanimous personality. We happened to share the same section in the first year. So, apart from knowing her solely on academic dimensions, I actually saw her evolve personally. The only child of her parents, she broke the dogma that we usually have for somebody who has been pampered a lot while growing up.

She is a true friend, always available in my difficult times. From her difficult times to mine, I have seen her stand strong. The fearless individual, she has always believed in voicing her opinion. As the selection of clubs and committees began, she got inducted into a club that resonated with her personality of being vibrant and full of energy, ‘The Cultural Committee’. From the thrilling ‘Dahi handi’ competition in Janmashtami to Dandiya night to footloose in Diwali, I saw her taking lead. She was that one person who could bring a smile to your face, no matter what mood you are in.

The presentation slayer and the Chai-Maker

She literally is ‘The presentation slayer’ when she gets in that mode. Her confidence and the way she expresses herself is ineffable. Another best attribute she possesses is that of an amazing ‘Chai-Maker’.

As we leave the college, the memories with this girl will forever be alive in the heart of everyone whose lives she has touched. She is the culmination of positivity and energy. Helpful yet funny and at times, crazily stupid, she is a beautiful soul.

And still, at times she is vulnerable. But she knows how to handle her situation well. She defies the Murphy ’s Law in style because she believes that she is the only one governing her life. I keep learning things from her, she never fails to surprise me. I’m fortunate to have got an opportunity to spend quality time with a true star of the campus, in all respects.
