In the coming months, IT services company Tech Mahindra will be recruiting engineering and MBA graduates, as well as laterals for new-age skills, said CP Gurnani, Chief Executive Officer, Tech Mahindra.
The organization has identified 190 skills that they will need for the plan. The first role is to recruit individuals and the second is to introduce experts from external sources followed by recruiting a lot of new engineering graduates. The organization also plans to employ a few hundred MBA graduates, those with customer experience as well as cloud and AI leadership roles. There is a heavy emphasis on talent and ability growth, in addition to recruiting.
What the officials at Tech Mahindra have to say?
However, discussing the decrease in the overall employee number, a large proportion of which was in business process outsourcing (BPO) of the firm in the quarter ending December 2020, Gurnani said, "Work from home has not traditionally been implemented in every part of BPO operations. So there are certain systems that we have switched to automation. And thus there's a decline in headcount."
The firm's net headcount stood at 121,901 in Q3FY21, down from 124,258 in the previous year. A net headcount decrease of 1,630 was accounted for by BPO. In addition to the drop in the BPO workforce, attrition stood at 12 percent for Q3FY21.
“As you can see, turnover is comparatively poor. It's a good sign that there were procedures and we didn't have to recruit people," Gurnani explained. “The period of technology modernization continues to gain momentum and our positioning of construction experiences through Nxt. has seen us gain considerable traction in the industry," he added.
