The paradoxical walls of SIOM Nashik -By Jasmeet Singh from SIOM Nashik

Happiness always bounces between paradoxical walls, for example, sweet after spicy, rain in summers and vice versa. One always looks for what is missing. When we were leaving college, we were happy. I felt like getting out of imprisonment. And the best part of it? Life wouldn’t be a struggle. We were getting paid. Life was certainly going to be fun. All matured and confident, most of us stepped into new cities with dreams that we were certain of getting fulfilled in a smooth way. Let me give you an insight into the paradoxical walls of SIOM Nashik.

The mirage of a working man's life

The bubble burst out soon with the struggle of finding accommodation. Little we knew that it was just the first step into the bog. The bog underneath was filled with scary layers of competition, performance, pressure, punctuality and what not. There were positive things too, but it was not certainly ‘just fun’. I never thought that I would say it, but I missed college.

Reminiscing over the golden days!

When I first entered college, it felt like a second home. The people and the campus seemed much more valuable now. It was comforting and secure. The icing on the cake was the new batch. New faces were always an excitement for the old batches, be it short-lived. It at least helped a smooth transition to back to college life.

Our belts are already buckled and we know the emergency exit procedure

We are seniors now. We had already faced what is coming for us. Our belts are already buckled up. This was not our priority for the initial few days. It could be tackled later on, fighting one battle at a time. The first thing was something, for which we were nervous in the first year, but excited now i.e. committee selection.

The all-important committee selection

All committees were battling for the best students but in a cooperative way. We felt responsible for the first time in our contribution to the college. The excited, nervous and unwitting faces on the other side of the table during selection made us realize that we are out of the toughest phase. Getting acquainted with realities is one of the biggest challenges in the MBA.

Schedules lighter and hopes brighter

The schedule is relatively lighter, hence the hopes became brighter. Hopes of getting good sleep this semester, hopes of getting good food in mess, hopes of comparatively less study burden, etc. pervaded the campus. All that I was seeing around was a lot of happy faces. It looked like the struggle had finally come to an end.

One wave endorsed these hopes, that is, the wave of students hitting the gym or going for jogging. It was like an exponential rise. You see through the door of the gym and it feels like a free food fest is going on in there. It would feel like a Mumbai local in its rush hour. You go into the hostel rooms and you can see fruits, protein powder, eggs and all kinds of nutritious eatables. Mess seemed out of business.

No, it doesn’t stop here. What about the groups with a healthy sex ratio. Scroll the pages of their social networks; they had made the most out of the beautiful monsoon rain and beautiful trekking spots of Nashik. The tourism department should honor them for their contribution to the wealth of the district.

The return of the paradoxical walls of SIOM Nashik!

Have you observed that I was using past tense till now? That is because something is fishy. I can foresee the paradoxical walls approaching again. The word placements if heard quite often. All eyes are laden with tension. I reckoned it. This was mentioned right at the beginning! That happiness bounces. It is going to bounce again. But no worries, everyone will find a new direction soon.
