The student life at SIMS Pune for the batch of 2020-22 during the lockdown -By Malvika Kumar

The ongoing pandemic situation has shifted life as we know it to online platforms, making Zoom calls and Google Meets the new normal. My life at SIMS Pune began on a virtual note, with an online induction program that was conducted from the comfort of our homes between 15-27 July 2020. 

Building bonds with batchmates virtually

Considering the induction program took place virtually, all physical activities like research games were put on hold. Instead, our professors and seniors made efforts to help us get adjusted to our new life at SIMS Pune. The 12-day program was filled with engaging activities, including introductory classes for excel and statistics, guest lectures, and team-building assignments.

One of the things I was looking forward to for my life at SIMS Pune, before the social distancing era, was interacting and establishing networks with my batchmates. Creating contacts is an important step in anyone’s MBA journey. However, since we were communicating through our laptop screens, the first interaction we had with each other was daunting! 

Though it missed the personal touch of face-to-face interaction, several ice-breaker games were conducted with the new batch. In order to learn more about the people we would be spending the next two years of our lives with, we spoke about where we’re from, what our short and long term goals are, and what is one fantasy we wish to achieve in life.

A jam-packed routine

The induction program was carried with the intention to prepare the new batch for the hectic life at SIMS Pune. A typical day as a student here starts at 5:30 am in the morning, with an hour-long class for physical exercises like Zumba or Yoga. Such activities ensure that we are physically prepared for the day ahead of us.

Our classes start at eight in the morning and end at six in the evening. After our classes end, we have batch meets until 8:00 pm, where we are divided into groups and receive assignments with strict deadlines. I am excited about my life at SIMS Pune, especially since it is gearing me up to work smartly and on time!
