MICA Ahmedabad Wins TVS Credit E.P.I.C Analytics Challenge Season 4

TVS Credit is a part of the TVS Group, one of India’s most reputable companies in the Two Wheelers and Automotive Components, Logistics and Textiles, Housing, IT, and Finance industries. The organization proudly conducted the fourth edition of its annual case study competition, TVS Credit E.P.I.C this year, and it was grander than ever before. The competition had four tracks, namely- Strategy Challenge, Finance Challenge, Analytics Challenge, and IT Challenge. 

Of these, the TVS Credit E.P.I.C Analytics Challenge was open for all B-School, M.E/M.Tech, B.Tech/B.E (3rd & 4th year), and M.A/B.A/B.Sc/M.Sc/B.Com/M.Com students. The competition amassed 3,84,042 impressions and 8,247 registrations with amazing cash prizes and PPI opportunities for the summer internship and MT program, up for grabs. I, Roshani Deshpande, wholeheartedly took to the competition and won the national winner title. Competing with and winning amidst some of the best minds in the nation filled me with a great sense of accomplishment.

TVS Credit E.P.I.C Analytics Challenge Structure

The framing and the organization of the challenge were top-notch and completely seamless. The case study was also very crisp and the objectives were defined clearly which made it easier to go about finding a solution for the same. The following rounds made up the competition:

Round 1: Online Quiz
Round 2: Case Study Challenge
Round 3: Grand Finale

The whole of the organizing team was very helpful and it was super easy to resolve doubts or take any queries. The master class was also immensely helpful in improving upon the solution by incorporating the mentor's feedback and suggestions. There were a lot of friends and professors who helped me out with anything and everything. I was able to look at the problem from different perspectives with the help of all these people. I am grateful to the TVS Credit team and all the people who supported me in making this competition journey extremely fun and memorable.

How I Broached The Case Study

My strategy was to make sense of the data and bring a story out of it, in a way that even a layman could understand. Here is how broached the case problem:

  • In-depth research both primary and secondary forms the foundation of every case study solution. And this is exactly how I began my journey to find a viable solution to the problem statement at hand, i.e. by conducting exhausting research.
  • Since this was an individual participation competition, I also relied heavily on the expertise and guidance of my professors and consulted them on multiple occasions.
  • I began working on the problem as soon as I got the news that I had made it to the final round. I was consistent with my work, though I was still working till the submission deadline. 

The primary challenge I faced in solving the problem was that I did not know a lot about how the credit industry works initially, which made it difficult to understand the given variables and their implications on the business. This is where conducting thorough research on the company and industry helped me build a winning solution. 

Lessons Well Learned

I started learning data science and business analytics a few months back. I had no prior knowledge of coding coming from a design background. But I was lucky to have found a very good teacher and a mentor who not just taught me the subject but also made me fall in love with it.

TVS Credit E.P.I.C Analytics Challenge was an incredible learning experience that was both invigorating and edifying. It gave me a better understanding of the real-life applications of analytics and also exhibited how it can be used to take business decisions. I also learned a lot about the credit industry and got the confidence to actually pursue analytics as a career path. 

My data analytics mentor was very happy and proud when I made it to the nationals. And when I finally won, it was an extremely special moment. It was great to network with top TVS leadership and I really enjoyed solving the case study. I will cherish the memories made and lessons learned for a long time to come.
